Vrs estate tailgate lock

Featured Replies

We have an 06 vrs estate which has been a great car. In the 1st yr of ownership the tailgate developed an intermittant fault where it wouldnt open. If you double clicked the key fob all doors would open fine.

Travel to our local shops approx 3 mile away ,the missis would jump out and goto the rear and the tailgate was locked. flick the key fob again and all was ok.

Then the tailgate wouldnt open at all (happened twice at Drayton manor ) .Got home all was fine again. Then it packed up altogether. It was fixed ok on warranty.

Around a yr later the fault is back again ,the car is currently with our local dealer and is being sorted no problem.

What happens if it goes again in the next yr ,as its out of warranty in March ?

Anyone else experienced similar problems ?

Parts should have a years warranty.

I'd be looking at door/lock alignment as in putting strain on the lock causing failure

Was the engine runnig at the time? It should remain locked if running.

You will find that the fault is almost certainly the boot light switch on the lock itself (on the hatch, not the car)

If the boot is slammed too hard, it will cause the switch to misalign, and then fool the elctronics into thinking that the boot is open when in fact it is not. You will also find that your rear wiper/washer will not work either. The cure is to bend the switch back into position and NOT to slam the boot!
