Should I have heard from the dealer by now?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to pick my vRS up on the 1st of September, I placed my order with the dealer on the 10th August. I'm 100% sure that the model I wanted was at the docks.

He said that he would confirm the delivery date, and also give me the list of reg numbers he has.

Haven't heard anything from them yet, thing is I need to sort the insurance out/ sell my car.

Do you think I should have heard from him by now?

Wouldn't hurt to phone them to check...people can be forgetful! :)

Without wishing to sound unhelpful...

Why not pick up the phone and ask what's going on? :)

My new Superb was at the docks around the 27th July, but didn't get called down by the dealer until last week. From what I hear, it takes about a week to get from docks to dealer once they request it. My car is now in stock, and ready for September 1st delivery.

As for the registrations, it will depend on your area. I got a call from the dealer last week offering me a number of possible choices, but it's possible that your dealer hasn't got their new allocation if they haven't been in contact with their local registration office in the last week.

If I was you, I'd be chasing hard, as these things can easily go pear shaped if you don't get on the case now.

right I'm going to give them a call when I get home. The last thing I want to do is sell my car now and then not be able to pick my new one up for a while.

and its a long walk to work (60 miles round trip)

I have to admit that that is one of the reasons I have always traded in rather than sold my old car privately. It is so handy to drive to the dealer, swap keys and drive away again in the new car.

Just spoken to the dealer, apparently the car has just been built and is on its way over. Should take between 7 to 10 days for it do arrive, but he cannot confirm if it will be here by the 1st!

Its 12 days till the 1st, so I don't see why it shouldn't be here for that date.

Are they normally delivered on time?

Damn! Mine was SUPPOSED to be being built this week, now won't be built until NEXT week, and I was quoted THREE WEEKS factory-to-dealership!

Hopefully they're just covering their behinds, and TBH, the reviews of Gorner's where I'm getting it from are generally VG...

I WANT IT NOWWWWWWWW! :weeping:

think yourselves lucky, at one point the Fabia vRs had a 3 month waiting list.

to be fair to the dealer he can only really guess at how long the car is going to take to get to the UK or infact the dealership from the factory. ok they have normal time periods for these things but remember what happened to the shiop carrying the new volvo and saabs etc from germany... it sank on the way over and the dealers couldnt have forseen that could they.

i know your excited about getting the car but i wouldnt be giving the dealer too much of a hard time.

at the end of the day he cant control the factory, the shipping or the sea.

True. I've been happy to wait two months already, so I suppose another week won't hurt. Everyone's doing the best they can, I'm sure. And it's not as though I'm on the waiting list for a MINI ;) Would've been nice to come back from holiday to it, though! :D

Just hope the dealer doesn't bust me too hard for the miles I've had to do since agreeing a trade-in :smirk:

My Superb was built in week 27 (28th June - 4th July), and it reached the docks in the UK on the 3rd August. From there, it took another 5 days to reach the dealer (once they had called it down).

Best case seems to be about 3 weeks from build to delivery. My car, which I reckon is fairly typical, took 5 weeks to arrive, and that's without it being prepared for delivery by the dealership.

At this point, I think you'd be very lucky if it arrived in time for the 1st.

I know its not the dealers fault, but when I ordered the car there was one of identical spec at the docks. Someone must have beat me too it! Picked my reg today, not a great choice though.

ap0gee: What have you ordered?

Black Magic Fabia vRS  - only options are side airbags and deactivation switch thingy for kiddie seat (not that we have any kids, but do have a nephew that occasionally needs looking after). Will also retrofit CD changer (cheaper and better spec than factory-fit), and a tracker 'cos I'm paranoid and don't trust the local scrotage... :grumpy: May retro-fit cruise control having read some stuff on here about how good it is, and how dealers can now add it.

I so can't wait! :D
