Door open warning setting car alarm off - Help!

Featured Replies

Hi there

I tried posting this in Techie (thinking it was the best place) but system wouldn't let me - please forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

Skoda fabia 2 HB. 2008 model. Still in Warranty. Bought April this year

I'm good at war & peace efforts (sorry) but giving as much detail so you can help me out best

Driving to work, been pretty cold last few weeks, so on comes the air con to de mist (not sure if this is relevant - but telling you guys anyway)

About 7-10mins into my journey the 'door open' light and alarm pings, in doing so the interior light also flashes on, it does this whilst I'm indicating.

So - I pull over, get out - test all the doors.

Back in, drive off, does it again, not signalling, so I turn off interior light (& Air con), Does'nt Ping for a while. at work about 7 mins later, and it does it again.

I do regular short journeys - but did discuss this with Skoda prior to purchase (bout 15-40min stints each day)

Same happened on the way back to home. - however, pick the kids up, car alarm goes off whilst I'm in the building. Darn

oh god I hope it didn't do that whilst I was at work all day - car park isn't situated where I work - its about a 7mins walk away! - eeek - flat battery?

Get home after several - 'PINGs' (its really annoying isn't it!

Some time later (and intermittently) off the car alarm goes

After the god knows what time, alarm goes off again, so I go sit in the car. with everything off, no key in ignition.

About 10mins later the 'door open' light flashes on - literally quick as a blink (i nearly missed it) - Ahh Ha - mystery to why alarm is going off.

I've called Skoda Assistance out - but to be honest no idea what they can do

Sooooo....

What's causing the door open alarm / light coming on?

What can I do about it?

Thanks

Hi All - Update

RAC couldn't diagnose the problem

Battery is fine

Showed me how to lock the car without the alarm.

Off to the garage tomorrow - Ho Hum...

:(

Dolphinstwins...that really annoying! It's difficult to do a diag over the net, but is could be something as simply as a circuit earthing out on a cable connected to the door courtesy switch or a link to it for the alarm. They can be awkward to access but the professionals won't have a problem. Let us all know what the problem is once you've had it fixed. Good luck.

Thanks

Forgot the darn number of the garage and was too busy at work to ring them anyway

Driving home today - Ping Ping Ping

Warning light pretty much stayed on

I have a feeling - from reading other posts, that its likely a circuit shorting out due to damp in my boot as my rear window always seems to be badly misted up.

Its a total pain - especially just before the holiday season and the time of year where all the old cars are conking out taking garages time up

:(

It may be worth checking that your rear washer isn't leaking. If that caused the windows to steam up, it could also affect the electrics.

I've had the indicators on mine not switch off when I return the lever to the off position. Has happened twice in the last two weeks. I will get it checked when it's having its first service if it doesn't manifest itself as a proper fault in the interim. Just over 8400 miles so far.

how do you lock the car without the alarm? as my skoda alarm is driving me nuts thanks

theres a little button on the drivers door, press that when you get out and it will turn off the inside alarm,

Can't offer a reason for this happening but share any experience which may help pin-point the problem.

Before Christmas when we had several overnight frosts I found the passenger side door frozen shut. Not a problem as I was the only one in the car...however as I drove to work car warmed up and as it did so the 'door open' light came on even though the door was shut properly. Only way to clear was to open and close the door...though for the first two attempts the door was still sufficiently frozen to prevent me from doing so!

Have no idea of the set up on the car but would suggest that perhaps there is a circuit trip on the door that is causing the problem. Unless someone can be more specific in the location of this then may be worth giving the door and surrounding area a good dry and seeing how you get on.

I've just started having this exact problem with my 08 fabia 2 htp70.

Does anyone know the fix or the cause yet? I'm reluctant to take it to the skoda dealer without knowing more first!
