VRs MK II TSi Boost gauge install

Featured Replies

Can anybody show details of how to fit a boost gauge on to this model and where to tap the vacuum pipe from?

any one have any ideas where to mount the gauge inside the car with out it looking crap?

How about removing the ashtray and it's gubbins and making a panel up to fit there?

im liking that idea! Could have it behind the cover and be a part time chav :P

maybe modifiy the insert so there's nothings done that's not easily reversible other than buying a new ashtry insert and a little hole in the back for the vacuum hose.

thinking about it though, maybe a better idea would be a 12v 0-2 bar vacuum transducer and send a the signal as a 4-20mA current to a little 4-20mA meter. No issues with vacuum rattle then and would be easy to thread the cable through the car

Cheers for the Forge info, I'll remove the plastic engine cover and try suss out where to look. I only want to fit a boost gauge so hopefully a T-piece is all that is reqd, I just need to determine what size I need. The silicone boost hose for the gauge is only approx 3mm I.D.

For the gauge installation Graham Goode Racing sell a 52mm pod for a Scooby that is corner dash mounted (not an A pillar version) and I reckon this could be trimmed and fitted in the corner of the dash top and is perfect for line of sight. (Although I think they charge about £50 for this plastic pod!!). The saves butchering any of the dash and nowhere else looks suitable. The bottom of the plastic A pillar could be drilled to pass the vacuum hose and wiring for the gauge illumination. This would then be hidden by the pod.

Dan, what is a Code Red remap? Can you give me any details, ie bhp increase and mpg?

Code Red is a company that currently tunes the likes of Focus ST's but there moving into the VAG market.

Developed and tested in Germany its going to be released in the UK shortly. Your looking around 250 to 260bhp with there induction kit. Hopefully there should be some rolling road figures to come shortly with and without the induction kit.

Fuel consumption is improved, cruising on the motorway im currently seeing around +MPG, obviously that depends on your driving style and speed but I can only report positives about fuel consumption.

Once i've got some rolling road figures i'll be doing a full write up on there stage 1 tuning package

If you want some more info contact Gary at Profile Automotive on 07725618835. He's there main UK distributor

Get it on a dyno dynamics rolling road for accurate figures - I'd be suprised to see a genuine 260bhp - I'd guess at around 245 tops if the code is as effective as the REVO stage 1 and the induction kit is on par with the Evoms etc.

Engine bay looks lovely btw.

Still waiting for Gary to get back to me re pricing and availability for the engine cover, I spoke to him in the first week of November

he was rushed into hospital a few weeks back and I agree, real world figures will be in the region of 245 to 250bhp, we shall see. As i said, hopefully we should be able to get some before and after figures

You can get a pod which mounts on the steering column, made for the MK5 golf but fits the Octavia. Look for new south guage pod.

I tried mounting the boost gauge on the steering column but found that it blocked visibility towards the instrument panel.:):):)

My thoughts too but I thought I'd offer it as an option.
