VRS 2.0 CR170 TDi DSG Estate economy

Featured Replies

Hi there

Anyone have any experience of the above vehicle to say how long it is before the engine loosens up and starts producing it's best economy figures ?

Mine's only on 70 miles at the moment, doing relatively short journeys - not ideal for economy I know.

Any assistance would be greatfully received.

Cheers

Bryan

my last 4 vw's started to loosen up 10/12k.should get my first skoda within the next two weeks.orded vrs cr170 dsg hatch.race blue sat r/s xenons.the secret for a healthy engine is to drive it briskly whilst running it in.none of my cars used oil after this period.

After the 1st service things usually improve a bit, but you might have to brace yourself for he fuel economy not being quite as good as you'd like. I had a 136bhp Peugeot 407 automatic that struggled to do 35mpg in mixed driving until it turned 20,000 miles and then it started to get closer to 40mpg. By the time it went back to the leasing company (100,000 miles) it was doing 45mpg but I was still not allowed another one by the company I was working for, as everyone elses (manual) Passats and Golfs were averaging 45-55mpg.

The 170bhp motor isn't anywhere near as good as the 140bhp motor for fuel economy in my experience. 170bhp is a lot to extract from any engine, and especially a diesel engine, and you might expect that as power outputs increase fuel economy will worsen.

What is definitely known though, is that the engine management system has self-adjustment that can adopt fuel settings to reflect the way the car is driven. If you hammer it, your power gets better at the top end and if you drive it gently you will see increasingly better fuel economy.

You should see 35-40mpg though. What are you getting and what were you expecting?

As I said - I'm only on 70 miles so it's far too early to guess what the economy will rise to. The overall average is 30 at the moment. According to the "official" figures, which I know cannot be relied on, the 170bhp DSG should be virtually on a par with my previous Touran 140bhp 2.0TDi, which regularly gave me 45mpg, so I'm hoping in the future the Octavia will be similar.

Having said that, there is always the likelihood that to enjoy the Octavia to the full I won't be driving it anywhere near as sedately as the Touran !

Thanks for your comments

My 170 golf pd dsg with 14k on the clock has returned 44mpg avr.not bad considering how its been driven.be interesting to compare it to my new vrs170 cr.when it arrives.

I'm looking at the VRS diesel too, my current Vectra 1.9cdti is tweaked to produce 195bhp & the higher the mileage the better economy, when new I used to be getting around 38mpg now at 72,000 I'm regularly getting over 45mpg
