A full skoda service history, any worries?

Featured Replies

After looking for a while i have decided on a 4x4 estate. Its metalic green with grey interior. Its has 97000 miles. I have seen the service book and it has stamps from Skoda from day one. I have been into the skoda dealership near me but they say they are unable to print off the service records for the car as it was done at another dealer. Having contacted the dealership that comnpleted the services, their service department is not open until Monday. :thumbdwn: Cambelt was done 60k and 3 years ago but everything seems ok. The dealership is Chapmans which is near Scarborough i think. Anyone have any experience with them that they can pm me or am i to assume that everything will be fine with the car? Thanks very much for the advice.

If you're buying from a main dealer and a condition of the sale is the full service history, you're pretty well covered legally as far as having a genuine record is concerned. If it turns out after the sale not to have a full history then you could potentially hassle them for a rebate when it was discovered, or reject the car.

As with everything though, paperwork doesn't necessarily mean the car is a good one although it is a good indicator as to how much care has been taken and if the mileage is genuine. If in doubt, take a mate who knows the type of car to give the tyres a kick for you.

I purchased the car thismorning. It seems great and an enjoyable drive home was had. I have one very slight worry which i didn't notice on the test drive. There is a juddering from the rear wheels i think. I cant feel it through the steering wheel and it seems to be only at low speeds. Im pretty sure that the pads are sticking. Is this a common occurance? Im hoping that it will sort it out with a bit of driving. The discs did have a bit of rust on them. This was only noticed when parking the car in the carpark at work this evening.

The rear pads will often make odd noises in reverse first thing in the morning or when it's been damp - that's pretty normal and not worth worrying about. If they're actually grabbing then that's different. It might be worth jacking it up and spinning the wheels to see if the bearings are alright, but remember that you're within your rights to get the dealer to check it out if you're not certain it's ok.

You can bet that if it's got Skoda service history and has been done by the book, that the only time that the wheels have been off were for tyre changes or pad replacement. They would not remove the pads at service to clean and lubricate the pad slides as some more old school garages would do.

With a Skoda used car you get 1 year warranty...I did with my 1.8t 4x4 Estate. If in doubt take it back get it fixed. Bug them as much as you need to...you earned every penny you spent on it and probably paid a premium so get your monies worth.

By the way Denis is stop on they are excellent cars...esp. the 4x4. Get it remapped even better!

I got a remap from Awesome GTI...its sooooooooo much fun!!!

All the best

I will be taking a trip to awesome gti in the new year. I really like the car. The brakes seem to have sorted themselves out now and are not making any noises. I think they just needed a bit of use after the car was stationaty for a few months. After a long(ish) drive yesterday a light flashed up on the dash. After putting it through a machine it is the MAF code. Bit gutted. It has not come on since being re set. The car seems to be running fine so i'm hoping it will be ok and that it might be ok after a few miles. I cant hear any hissing under the bonnet. Would it come straight back on again if anything was wrong or would it take a while? Having done a search i beleive this is quite a common problem. If it comes on again i'll get it sorted in January whilst going to awesome gti.
