Hi all.

Im in a bit of a twist.

Basicly I need (thats need, not want) AWD, but its got to be a TDi.

Ive been looking on the net, and the A3 Quattro TDi 's look about what I want.

However, where are all the 5 door ones?!

Can anyone sugest a 5door TDi, with 4wd, and about the dize of a fabia/golf/A3 for under £9k. The lower the better as Im not rich!

Means ill have to sell the Fabia, but dont think that will be hard.

Other cars ive looked at are:

Golf 4motion TDi ... Cant find any in UK.

A4 Quattro TDi ... Too big really for what I want

S3 Quattro ... Only petrol?

Would like to go with the PD engine if poss, 'cos Im going to be tuning the car I get to around 200bhp ish.

Think ive said everything I need to .

Thanks for help in advance.

Dave

you'll get an octavia tdi estate 4x4 within your budget I would think. Not really any bigger than an A3 far better vfm. How hard are you looking??

The Octavia 4x4 is based on the same floor pan as the A3 and Golf but is about a foot longer.

If the price is right (and the Octy is aways going to be much better value than an A3 of Golf) is the size difference really such an issue?

Another option is a Fiat Panda - no i'm not joking its a cracking wee car an very capable.

Alfa 159 JTD with the Q4 transmission - utterly gorgeous, brilliant drive, great sound for a diesel and still relatively exclusive. Plus they depreciate quie a lot, so you can probably get a bargain if you intend to keep it. The reliability issues of the past seem to be fading fast too.

I didnt even think of looking at mk5 golf's, thought that they would be too much £££.

Mk5 it is then (new year some time maby).

Just need to get £5k for mine.

Im not selling it yet, just to piont out, just want to know what sort of price people would pay?

55 Plate Fabia vRS,

66k on clock,

Mods below, (nothing that really de-values I think, other that pikey arch, put you cant see it).

12 months tax just put on it.

Will have new mot.

Cambelt done about 10 months ago.

Two new tyres,

Cupra console bushes with polly wishbones too.

Tracking etc set up by Neil Garner Racing.

Can come with dragon box if want?

Just a rough price would be nice.

As I said, not selling it yet.

Thanks, Dave

I suggest you drive one first!

i had a Audi A4 1.9 TDI quattro for a company hack for a while and it was dreadful... the gearing was stupidly low, so the engine was revving its knackers off at motorway speeds..

And heres a question.. why do you NEED quattro?.. if you have a legitamate reason, surely Rav4 type thing would be better than all these faux-4x4 cars?

I see. You lull us into a false sense of security under the cloak of asking for advice-then hit us with a FREE AD!!

Haha, No. Thats not what I did, but reading it back, it does look like that.

4x4 is needed to get onto most of my land.

My land is flat, and is well drained, so doesnt get boggy.

Thats why I dont need a Rav4 (there rubbish by the way). Or other big 4x4.

Could do with towing trailers too.

And Ive got some Family in Norway and Sweeden, and I go over in the winter sometimes, but have always had to rent!! Used to go with mum and dad, but he had an WRX.

I have access to a 4wd if I need one quickly anyway.

What reg was the A4 you drove?

The is a 1.9? This is a 2.0, 150bhp. Wonder what else the engine is in?

I cant imagine the mk5 4motion to be rubbish handling, same diff' etc as the R32 ive been told.

Ill book a test drive in the new year. Just been paid my overtime for the last 3 months which is nice to say the least!

Also, ESP and cruse control would be nice.

Anyone driven a mk5 4motion, pref TDi ??

I know this is a mk4, and I know the guy is trying to get it sidewards, but it just goes to show 4motion is a gripper, not a slipper.

YouTube - golf 4motion

Also found a video of a Quattro passat vs about 4-5 4x4's on a really snowy hill, and the quattro was the only one to get to the top. Cant find the video now.

Edit: Can now... YouTube - Diffrents between 4wd cars and quattro
