Handbrake button rattle. VERY ANNOYING!!

Featured Replies

My car has got an anoying rattle on the handbrake release button. When you hold it it stops, When you twist it, it stops for 30 seconds and it starts again. The haynes manual tells me nothing.

any ideas or tips on getting in there and sorting it out

thanks

dave

I have this also but not got around to fixing it yet. Im sure i read in another thread that someone cut up something like a coke bottle and cut the clear plastic to a shape that could be inserted around the button thus stopping the rattling, ill give this a go after work tomorrow when ill wash the car.

Try putting a small bit of double-sided trim tape round the button, with the backing left on the outside so it doesn't stick to the handbrake as it moves in and out. That should give it a bit of a cushion to stop it touching the handbrake and rattling.

It's that a piece of single sided tape then ? :P

They don't make trim tape single-sided! ;):D

Velcro loop tape rather then hooks works well too ;)

I used felt I got from a colleague and used contact adhesive in my wife's Bora.

Worked a treat and hasn't moved and that was 2 years ago.

:iagree:

I used a small strip of fluffy sided velcro on the underside of the button.

I did exactly this. Cut a strip of clear, colourless plastic from a fizzy pop bottle, cut so it's the right length to go nearly all the way round the button, and the right width so it just sticks out a little from the handle itself. Unobtrusive, easy to remove if you want, but has not shifted of its own accord in 9 months of use.

A very simple fix for something that was driving me bonkers!

Mega thread revival.

This is why I love Briskoda.

I googled 'mk1 octavia handbrake rattle' and this was the first return. Amazing. It's rare to Google a problem about the MK1, no matter how small, without a solution being presented from this forum!
