my keys broken, metal part snapped...SOS

Featured Replies

RE; my 2006 Octavia VRS 170 PD

Does anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative to buying from the main dealer a new "blade" type key as it snapped. And do THEY have to programme it or can someone else do it more reasonably?

Any help or advice greatfully received.

Thanks.

If it's a flip out type blade, they are held in with a pin and are easily replaceable. We had to get just the blade for an Octavia one day, I phoned this company:

Local Locksmith Keyfax Manchester Locksmiths & Auto Lock Specialists Tameside

E-mailed them a photo of the spare key and they sent just a cut blade which worked perfectly. When photographing keys, it is better to go over the blade with a black marker pen so that the cut part is in better contrast.

how on earth did you break that?

If you have your immobiliser SKC then anyone with VAG-COM can code a new key for you. If the metal part has come away from the rest of the key where the metal pin is then all you need is a new blade and you won't need the key coding.

Good luck

A good high street keycutter/locksmith will be able to cut a blade, failing that try your local branch of timpsons
