If a Fabia has a similar alarm pattern to a vRS

Featured Replies

then there's a good chance a skoda flip-key might operate it? :)

The mongrel white TDI appears to have the same alarm style/method as my own mongrel does, in that you open central locking via the driver's door (1 flick, door only, 2 flicks = whole car) and if you open any door but the driver's door, the indicators start flashing. There is no siren noise though which is something I need to investigate. Is there a good chance this car was bought back in 2000 with optional alarm system?

I have a spare remote flip-key (vRS style) which I am going to try and program to the car. I am hoping the age gap between X plate and 2003+ vRS does not mean a different frequency. Bit odd that the car came with 2 regular keys then.

When I had my Y-plate 01 Elegance I tried to get a spare. Being the Elegance it had the Alarm (that's F'ing loud when the cars half on the drive, half in garage and it goes off!)..anyway.

One place told me that around 2001 the Fabia's went from fixed codes to rolling codes.. or summit along those lines so I'm not sure your 2003 key will work on a 99/00 car... however.. I may have just plain been lied to when a Key chap couldn't do me a key..

I think that the frequency changed at some point around 2002, but I may be wrong, 433 to 434 MHz perhaps?

Being a Comfort, it won't have an alarm as standard, but where is the controller for the alarm?

Is it built in to the convenience module or anything that you have replaced for a higher spec version whilst you have been fixing it?

The alarm is something a little odd. There is a sticker on the passenger side window for some kind of alarm system, but it seems to work just like the vRS. I will take the car into my local vagcom techie some time and let him give me the nod, or not....

Just checked mine and SWMBOs keys and both are 434 MHz if that helps. My car is an 02 Comfort and SWBOs is an 04 Comfort.

[fingers crossed]

I've just been out to fit a wingmirror switch to it, and noticed that when the door is unlocked and you turn the key in the ignition, it does the same "quick indicator flash" to tell you the alarm timer has been cancelled by putting the key in the ignition and it's the correct key. :)

I am pleased as PUNCH with car success this afternoon

1) went to key cutting specialist and got spare key cut for the mongrel (needs coding only) Remote already programmed

2) faltered when thinking about cutting the spare flip-key for the white one - what if it didn't work? £16 down the pan

3) nipped 300 yards down the road to VOLKSCRAFT (big plug for the best indep VAG garage in Exeter! Also a REVO dealer ;)) and within 30 seconds he had found the white fabia had remote locking capability and it was WORKING! :woot: (on the blank uncut flip key)

4) only slight downside is remote boot opener is not applicable

5) Went back to key-cutting place and shelled out £16 to have the now programmed flip-key cut into the correct shape for the ignition

6) back to VOLKSCRAFT and within 5 minutes he'd programmed the white fabia to have 3 keys including the now remote programmed flip-key. (5 minutes, not 30 seconds, as he took me through the process on my own vagcom laptop to show how it was done - now that's what I call service!!)

7) I drove away happy - with the prior blank (previously long term redundant) key in the ignition and drove home, parked up, and locked it remotely!

Been a great late afternoon for me! :D

Nice one. :D
