Superb is off!

Featured Replies

The Superb is going. After a year and a half of ownership I've decided to get rid (especially after finding out how much it is worth v what I owe.)

I'm handing the car back to the finance company using the half rule. For anyone that doesen't understand that, once you have paid half of the total amount payable (car + interest etc) you can simply hand the car back to the finance co, and pay nothing more.

I didn't know this until today, and have hopefully done a deal on a replacement car. Subject to my finance going through!!!

What are you going to get to replace it?

Were you not happy with your superb in the end?

Good luck with the finance, the current climate will make it very difficult to get any.

Before handing the car back consider the following,

Yes, you can hand it back to the finance company as per the policy. The car must be as it was supplied to you, so any mods etc. must be removed and any bodywork damage repaired otherwise they WILL charge you for this to be done.

They will record the fact that you have voluntarily given up the goods early to them on your credit file and this in turn could affect your ability to get credit in the future. The reason for this is because the clause you are using is usually invoked because the car owner maybe having difficulty in keeping up the repayments.

Good luck Chris.

Shame you didn't hand it back before splashing out on the clutch etc!!

Will its condition be a problem do you think??

Only thing to be weary of is that the specific finance company won't give you finance again due to you basically shafting them!! Also worth checking how this will effect your credit file as per Mannys post. Only saving grace might be if you get new finance before the old company update the reports with experian/equifax etc.

the finance co is not allowed to discriminate against you for involking a clause of their agreement.

My new finance is sorted. I'm having a new windscreen before givng it back as that is the only damage.

Glad to hear you have the finance sorted. Merry Xmas

That's what the rules say, in reality see it this way, there is a record of you doing it, so when the finance company deciding if to loan to you see's it, they will either decline or offer a rate that's not that good, i.e if you are clean you get offered 8% with that on record they offer you a loan but at 15%, nobody lends money to a bad risk, and although it's not defaulting on the loan it's still a bad risk to them, I'd imagine Chris' car will lose all the interest they stood to make when it goes under the hammer, so from a business pov would you lend knowing the person has semi bumped you?

To put things in perspective, I owe 3k and the car has been valued at between 800 and 1500. This is due to te high mileage and the fct it has no histor and it is ex police!

Will update when it goes back to the finance co next week!

I think you've done a bit of a silly thing tbh Chris, I myself would've stuck it on Autotrader for just under 3k and took anything over 2k for it and paid the rest off myself, like has been said you won't get a blacklist from it, but it seem's such a small amount to get a blot on your records for mate.

That Superb would struggle to make £2k on the Trader tbh. Ex police, plenty of holes in the dash etc... Plus a high mileage 1.8T in a Superb isn't going to win many friends, especially in green!!

That is why it is going back rather than being sold! To be fair the dash is ok now :) it is just tired!!

It's gone. Dropped it off at the finance co this morning. No questions, apart from did it have a valid MOT certificate. A quick look round it and then that was that.

Been and signed the paperwork on the new car too, and am picking that up new years eve!! Yay!!

Sorry to see you out of a Superb, but I can understand why.

What you getting then? I noticed you'd been speaking to James on the Superb II forum a lot... :rubchin:
