Time to renew my road tax (great time of year!) and trying to remember when the new bands are introduced. I think it's April 2010 now after the November budget, so a VRS TFSI will go up to £260 then??

I think that some of the changes to the higher bands were changed in the November mini budget thingy as part of batling the credit crunch.

Are you sure it wasn't Gordon Brown battling the credibility crunch? (along with the u-turn on 10% tax band). I am not sure one years deferment and then some smoothing of the increases will make that much difference. Particularly if it just means raising other taxes else where or when (plus interest thank you!)

Also, what happened to the environment since these so called green taxes first came to light. Them rain forests all better now?

To be quite honest I can't see how I am actually better off now, by saying he is not adding some more taxes for a bit, on taxes we aren't yet paying and he only invented to apply next year in March this year anyway.

He might as well "help" by saying "I am going to tax you a million pounds for bread from next month", then the next week (after many people/companies have planned important and costly long term changes or just panicked and sold their bread for nothing) simply change his mind and say "I am not going to tax you a million pounds for bread" and spout how generous he was in making us all a million pounds better off!
