Clunking after Lowered

Featured Replies

Just got the vrs down off the jack after putting in 30mm lowering springs and bothe sides are clunking.

Niw i have fitted lowering springs a good few times, just wondering if i did something wrong.

Cant think on it though - balls

Any ideas

Are you sure when you released the spring compressors the damper rod went up into the strut top bearing centrally. that can cause clonking if its ****ed.

Fairly sure i got that right, the bearings were good to. I know that when they are knackered it causes clunking.

Suppose the only real way to know is take it all apart and check it

It's funny how things change. When I was a teenager the cool thing to do to your car was to jack up the rear suspension. Many people who owned a Capri did this. Now everyone wants their car's suspension lowered.

What next?.......

Its not really for coolness the octavia isn't the best handling car at speed, i go to the nurburgring a few times every year.

Hence the lowering and the whiteline rear arb, with four new tires.

think lowering has been around the last few years, its not really new!!!!!!

But i know what you mean some people just go to far 60 - 70mm

What next?.......

Leaving it standard height :rofl::rofl::rofl:

mmm I still think the front end of the std Octy is too high.

hence Y I put coilovers on mine as I couldnt find a lowering kit that would lower the car 20 mm at front and keep the norm hight at the rear. so the coilovers went on and I have put it to what i think is a good hight and just closed the gap a bit between the arches and the tyres. you can jus get a finger in there now instead of a fist lol

What springs have you fitted? Only H&R and weitec do the correct one's for the vrs afaik.

you've probably done it but when i got my old polo lowered they forgot to tighten the top bolts once it had come off the jack had that caused it to clunk.

yea i think I know what you mean. when the car is jacked up you think youve tightened the top mount up, just check that they have tightened them up properly.

Are these specific for the VRS?

I remember those days. Don't know about it being a cool thing, mind you that was when folks thought a capri was a poor mans Ford Mustang. At that same time people were still lowering there cars though, I had a Escort Mexico Mk 1 that I put lowering blocks on the leaf springs and shorter front coil springs, thought it was the bees knees back then, still love them now.
