child lock

Featured Replies

How do I set "child lock" so that rear doors can not be opened from inside? I was hoping the button on driver's door grab handle will do this, but that is not the case.

The manual says use the key hole/slit on the rear door for child lock and this works. This is a pain: I have do to this for each door and I have to undo this for each door if I want to turn this feature off. Since my usage is mixed (sometimes adults and other times its kids) it is not practical for me to use this mechanical key thingy.

Is there an easier way to 'child lock'?

Thanks.

A (dumpy) screwdriver will work also....

I guess it depends on what's more valuable, a few mins of time or safety,

Perhaps cable ties around the kids wrists would be quicker for you.

activate the auto lock function, wen car moves of doors lock when car stops and you remove the key the doors unlock,

Not good. Pull twice, door opens.

don't tell them that ! (fair point well made)

this got me thinking because the cars are getting more and more sophisticated, yet this child lock remains the same old mechanical thingy even in more expensive cars.

the argument i hear is this: if it were a button like anything else, the driver is likely to turn it ON/OFF too easily and likely to forget to keep it ON next time, where as this mechanical switch will remain engaged always and very unlikely to be turned OFF. Something like the ON button of a nuclear missile, it better not be in a convenient-easy-to-reach location :-)

one related question: Do all the doors and boot get unlocked in the event of an accident?

the locking button between the handbrake and gear stick (by cigarette socket) does that do the same princaple when it locks the door (2 locks and it opens?)

Yep. Wish it had something like the disable airbag switch, then. Easily accessible from the driving position.

How do you do this?

You have to pull twice in two seconds interval to open the door.

If you miss to do a second pull in two seconds, it is considered as being a first one.

How do you do this?

You must have MaxiDOT or VAG-COM to do this. For MaxiDOT - read your manual.

via maxidot,or vag tool

ah bugger, I don't have either!

have a look in the vag com section and see which members are close to you and send them a pm

Just tried this on my car, and, as expected, not true. The system is purely mechanical, that wasn't likely to be so anyway.
