Trailer light on the dash

Featured Replies

Havent had this old chesnut for a while, anyone got the light working on the dash for the trailer lights yet??

if so how?

Ahhhhhhh this old chestnut.......

As you can tell I have a Superb now and had tow & electrics fitted by the supplying dealer as I wanted the trailer in dash indicator.Anyway a week after delivery I tried the tow electrics only to find no dash light!!!, just rapid indicator flashing with a bulb failure. Lets just say I was not happy, seeing as my 98 Octy estate had the damned dash indicator.

After arguements and disgussions it would appear that Skoda stopped the trailer indicator from the facelifted Octy,s, all Fabia,s and includes the Superb, you only get a rapid indicator flashing on failure, not operation.

HOW CRAP IS THAT

So it would appear that you cant (or at least not in the UK.. ideas forthcoming)

I do find this an absloute shambles really, seeing as my 98 Octy had the light ( although Skoda UK and various dealers said I didnt, but belive me the salesman who bought my old Octy will confirm it HAS)

Anyway enough of my rant, but at least you know what I know...not much consolation I know sorry

Cheers

Hmmm, have you tested this?

reason is how can the thing tell when the trailer is connected or not?

you see you normally have 4/2 bulbs on the system adding the trailer increases this to 6/3 how can it tell the differance between the trailer being connected and not? see what i mean?

tell you what connect your trailer then take an indicator bulb out (of the trailer)!! does it double flash???

Time to shout at the dealer some more or post back here that it does/does not work.......

yes this trailer thing is a complete bloody shambles!!!!

That is how I found out....a bulb blown on the trailer board, as well as no trailer indicator in the dash.

Pre face lifts had a new hazard switch/relay unit that provided the neccessary for the dash indicator when a trailer connected, but post face lift and all other models have a realy in the boot apparently so you only get the double flash indicator on failure not any other time.

I have to say the whole system sucks, and would imagine Europe gets the dash light judging by the handbook. This to me is just another of the cost cutting and belittleing carried out by VW, as I am quite sure VW ,s have a proper dah light.

Just to confirm I have also argued quite forcefully with my dealer, another 2 dealers, Skoda UK customer services and even third party trailer specialists.....but it got me nowhere..other than the knowledge that it is apparently legal and OK, but not really OK to me as I feel its Mickey Mouse in the extreme.
