Radio Wiring Ignition feed *urgent help required!*

Featured Replies

I Tried to install a new head unit in the girlfriends fabia last night, I couldnt get the radio to work with the key, like they usually do (i.e on with the ignition, off when you remove the key) and I found that there is no ignition feed to the radio.

There should be an ignition feed on pin 4 of the radio connector (was on the last Fabia) but its not there, I had a quick look in the fuse box but couldnt see any blown. Can anyone suggest where this feed comes from? and why it might not be there? is there another fuse hidden somewhere?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave.

Hi Dave

The way I have read it the radio works BUT does not come on or go off with the IGN !

If so, there are two feeds usually a red and a yellow, if so just swap them over !

Radiotwo

Well covered but you need to swap the permanent and ignition lives as mentioned above.

Yea, the new radio has the swappable yellow and red wires, but thats not the problem.

I've metered out the connector for the radio and the ignition feed from the car just isn't working, its at 0 volts permanently. i've checked the other wires on the connector and can only find ones for illumination, permanent live, ground and a couple of others. Pin 4 is the ignition feed, which worked fine on the last fabia, this one is dead though.

I've had to wire the radio so it's permanently live, but obviously we want it working properly.

Can anyone with a haynes book-of-lies tell me where the ignition feed comes from? or if there's a fuse for it?

Thanks, Dave.

Problem Solved,

traced the problem down to a blown fuse, number 10 in the fuse box, its a 5 amp mini fuse, owners manual says its for "s- Switch", there's a side-note at the bottom of the page that says "for electrical items which can be used until the key is removed from the ignition".

Dave.
