spanner - sudden service?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a Mk2 Octavia, which started a few days (weeks?) ago to show me a spanner with 4000 nect to it, It started at 4200, then went down to 4100, then 4000. And suddenly the numbers disappeared, and I am now left with just the spanner.

Does this mean I can still wait about 4k miles, or has there been a sudden change in the state of the car which needs immediate servicing?

Thanks for your help.

NB, I expect to bring the car to Skoda Bolton, as I have seen quite a few comments about it here. Any other suggestion? (I'm in Warrington)

I'd like to mention the cruise control stalk that works intermittently, and hope that they can help with Skoda sharing the costs (it's such a common fault, and the car only has 23k miles, although it's 3 years and a half old). What are forumers' experiences with this?

The service interval must have exceeded 12 months or determined the state of the oil to require changing.

Thanks, well, that's what I don't really understand...

I have not seen a "xxx days to service" symbol with a spanner, so I'm a bit surprised...

Last service was quite a while ago (before I got the car), so I'll call Skoda anyway.

OK, time for be to get the car serviced.

I've been quoted for what the dealers call the "40k service", which includes brake fluid, pollen filter, spark plugs, etc. Does that sound right?

I've told them this should be the "second" variable service, after the 10k one.

At just under 4 years old, it should be due a 40k service on a timed basis. Also IMO variable service isn't really appropriate for a car that's doing under 6_000 miles a year (and presumably lots of short runs and cold starts?)

Interesting.

I actually bought the car 18 months ago, and have done about 13k since (about 6-7 k in 6 months, then much less), but i have to admit I am doing far less mileage than I used to (hence buying a petrol car)

What do people think about this? Should I ask to revert to fixed servicing?

During the week, the car does ittle more than a 5 mile run to the office, then back.

I would revert to fixed, because what kills oil really is lots of short trips and cold starts. Opie Oils will back this up.

In fact, I do more miles than you do, with a longer commute, and never even contemplated variable servicing.
