Servcing from a non-dealer garage

Featured Replies

A difficult question but thought I would ask.

I have an 05 plate Octavia 2.0 diesel. I intend to keep this car till it is pretty much worn out. I intend to services the car properly but I am not interested in keeping up with Skoda dealer stamps.

I have had work done on another car by a local garage that seem to be honest and reliable. They have at least some computer devices for accessing engine management.

They knocked £30 off a quote for new exhaust when parts came through cheaper than expected, could have kept their mouth shut and kept the money.

For basic servicing would a Skoda dealer be streets ahead of this garage?

So long as they use genuine parts and are VAT registered then you are covered under the same parts warranties as if a dealer did it. The labour rate will no doubt be cheaper so if they satisfy the two points above then go for it.

Also make sure they use the correct oil and that they know their onions regarding that. Best way to be sure is probably to buy it yourself and provide it to them

I also have an 05 2.0tdi. Took the decision once it was 3 years old to go to an independent VW specialist for servicing. Saved £80 on the dealer and have had no problems. Just checked before hand they would be using the correct oil grade and would be changing all filters as part of the cost. However, have not decided yet on who will do the cam belt this year as its due on 4 year old.
