aux / alt belt tensioner removal??? 1.6 felicia

Featured Replies

Hi, my alternator belt has snapped and in doing so has smashed the belt tensioner wheel. Haynes manual seems very clear on how to change the belt but doesn't seem to mention how the change the tensioner...any ideas? .

Looking at the new one it simply screws onto a thread just below the alternator, but how the hell can I get hold of the old one to unscrew it? it would probably unscrew eccentrically by tapping the remains of the tensioner wheel round...if it wasn't for the fact the tensioners spring nature will simply absorb any blows.

I notice that the new one has got a pin in it as it's still under tension awaiting release, do I need to get the old one into this state first?oh and it's got power steering but not air con.thanks.

you'll probably need an impact gun, but you might be able to jam it into position with a prybar to stop it moving

edit: is it the the one which is held on by a bolt through the centre?? there's more than 1 type..

  • 1 month later...

my Belt tensioner was giving me a whirling sound and today i just heard nothing, accelerated and heard two claps

the tensioner wheel has gone loose, i think i might take the oportunity to replace it, now mind you there are two, the top one, farely accesible, is secured by presure, but the one below (the one that was giving the whirling sound) i have now clue how to remove and replace, plus, the fact that is in the middle and 2 cm from the engine bay wall got me confused as to how an i going to get it out

i dont see a way unless i remove the alternator and find bolts there that hold the tensioner asembly

any one want to give me a hand on this ?

ok, nobody answered, so i alredy did it,

for the 135 engine

brace the engine, remove the left support, lift the car slowly and it will make the engine go down...

now you have access to the screw that hold the ball bearing in place, turn it left (oposite of the direction of the belt, and it will come off...

replace the ball bearing and put it back on, that its. 30 min tops
