As most people who know of me, I'm on a bit of a modernisation charge with my Fabia. I'm now thinking about getting lowering springs, as recommended by someone who saw the pics of my car on my website. I've had a quote from carparts-warehouse ltd of

Personally, I'd go for the springs over the spoiler... As far as I know (and I work with computers, not cars, remember!) it shouldn't be too difficult for your mechanic friend to fit the springs.

Going to be doing some lowering myself soon!

I'm thinking of about 30mm max though. I think 50mm could be too harsh.

They should be easy to fit, although I will get it done by an expert myself as I dont fancy a compressed spring going AWOL!:D

Is anyone familiar with the GMAX springs? - I was guessing at 50mm, and I think if it did lower by that much, I can kiss getting up my mates farm track unscathed - I already occasionally ground the bottom a little.. :D I reckon I'd be happy with 30mm although it doesn't sound that much... (although having measured it on a ruler it won't be that bad at all..)

Does anyone know the model / part number for the best lowering springs for the Fabia? (not the most expensive though :D )

This is what I am probably going to go for, although its between these and H&R springs. I will either get them fitted by Jabba (Eibach) or AMD (H&R)

Think about it... no one else has built a fabia that needed a stepladder to get into... :eyecrazy:

:rofl: I could fit some huge wheels- like 18" wide - with 300/80 R18 tyres round them - I'd have to cut away most of the bodywork, but c'est la vie, eh? I could make tons of money at those monster truck shows.

Possibly - I'll ring the dealer today and find out what the damage will be. I reckon that even getting the dealer to fit custom springs to the car will void the warranty anyway, but I'd better get clarification... I suspect they'll void everything to do with the suspension it its entirety. They already said they wouldnot cover the wheel bearings when I got my current wheels. :(

I'm not sure of the dealer's logic behind that. What about CV joints, coil springs, dampers, drive shafts, brakes etc which are all arguably affected in some way by fitting different wheels and hence changing unsprung weight (if indeed that is so)? And if you want to be even more ridiculous, you could also argue that bigger wheels could affect engine cooling since they alter the airflow around the front end of the car. But at least wheel bearings are not expensive to replace if the

I reckon if they can save money via warranty "clauses" ,if thats the word, they'll try. As for wieght I don't believe it has altered as I picked up each wheel when they were being put on to the car and there was little difference I thought. The core alloy was 11kg, which I don't think it bad, but I'm aware of lighter ones out there. I bet the brakes are cooled better, as there are nice big gaps between the 5 spokes directly onto the brakes. May help when they're glowing red after one of my little jaunts :D

I have to see my dealer soon about seemingly excessive wear on the rear discs - they've started to "squeal" as the ATS man called it (a mark on disc left by brakes) - and the front discs are fine which take 60% of the brake pressure... I see no logic in why the rears should go first (too many handbrake turns? :D)

Well, just ordered some Eibach springs.... the GF is going to kill me when she finds out! *chortle*

Stimps - Can you send some feedback on what the Eibach springs are like when they're fitted? Your feelings about the Eibach kit could be what finally turns me to go out and order a set. :D

It's not that I don't like the current 'factory' setup on the fab... it does feel a bit spongy sometimes, and there's an enormous (relatively speaking) gap between the car body and the top of the wheel at present which i'd like to reduce...

Thats how I feel about the car now (take a peek at the wheel close-up on my webpage) - The gap is about 2 inches I reckon. I'm still worried about warranty issues though - Must visit dealer before doing anything... :(

I'm at my dealer on tuesday, so will have to bring up the subject and see what they say - although in hindsight I should have really done that before ordering the springs!

If it comes to the worst I can always ask to speak to the owner as he's a decent bloke and went to school with my sister (the "female yellow RS owner") and is usually quite approachable... *crosses fingers*

Will see if the dealer will do it - nice people and all that - as would rather pay them than ATS, etc. Plus might help with regards to the warranty position...

Reading this thread with interest, as i find the suspension on my estate is very soft. I visited the msport site but found several versions of springs for the estate, so what do the differences mean in regard to ride quality??? ( i thought on the lines of amounts of force to compress the springs??)

I'll have to try and check out the details of the warranty before I go in on tuesday to the dealer, although that's not to say i might have to resort to pleading ignorance about the warranty if they're off about it...

Well, the springs turned up today :-)

Now - do i ask the dealer to fit them, or just go to a local tyre place?

Good question... Why not phone up the dealer pretending you're "thinking" about buying some springs and ask them for a quote to fit them (and drop the warranty thingy into the conversation). If you find out anything, can you let me know, please? Although my dealer may not do the same thing as yours... :(

edit: I've put in a couple of calls to my company's suppliers regarding the springs. I'm hoping ATS will be the bext as we have a good account with them, and I don't have to pay VAT! hehe. I got my 4 low-profile marshalls from them for only
