Fabia reverse sensors - how to wire in?

Featured Replies

Excuse my lack of technical skill - hence this question! Got my missus a parking sensor kit - the one you dont need to drill holes into the bumper. Cheap and nasty I know but if it half works it will be a success! roblem for me is how do I know which is the reversing light wire which needs to be piggy backed. All i can see is a white block with wires coming out of it!!! Also where does the black lead go? In the instructions it says it goes to the ground wire from the reversing light? Is that the earth? Any help much appreciated

according to my wiring diagrams it would appear that M17 (reversing light in the right hand side light cluster) is powered by a black/blue wire.

I would personally rather have the car running with the lights off, someone sits with the car in reverse and clutch in, whilst someone with a voltmeter prods all the wires coming out of the back of the plug on the bulbholder, until it finds the one getting power. That'll be the one.

Thanks for that advice. Will try it out on Saturday. Does the black wire just fit to any bolt to make an earth?

Best to use an existing earthing point. If you can make it reach, where the rear seatbelt buckle mounts under the parcel shelf bracket/shelf (where there's a bass speaker on the higher spec fabias) that would be a good point. Slacken off the bolt and put wire behind then re-tighten up. 100% best way would be to solder on a ring terminal to the black wire that would go over the bolt the buckle uses to attach to the chassis. I also think one of the four bolts holding in the light cluster to the chassis would be sufficient (not like running a 1000w amplifier is it :D)

Ignition on and in reverse would suffice, dont need it running.

:o yup indeed, then it can still be a one man job with the voltmeter.
