What car alarm is this?

Featured Replies

Today i saw a bloke with a new Nissan GT-R:drool:

When he parked up he got out locked the car and walked off however his engine kept running for around 30 secs before stopping.

Does anyone know what sort of alarm system this is as i have rang a few nissan dealers and none of them knew anything about it. I cant seem to find anything online about it so it leads me to believe its not a standard alarm or even one fitted by nissan but an after market kit.

I understand why its done to allow the turbo and other engine parts to be fully lubricated before stopping and was thinking of maybe getting a similar system for the blue bullet

Help is greatly apreciated

It could just be a turbo timer, If not I know some clifford alarms have built in turbo timers.

And they are probably illegal too. The offence is 'quitting', leaving the vehicle unattended with the engine running. There was a successful prosecution in the paper in 2007ish I remember, and I don't expect the law has changed since.

Why would you want to leave it running?

i've also seen one where you can remotely start the engine too by pressing a button on the fob

I get the intelistart thing, but not the turbo running thing

Why would you want to leave it running?

to allow the turbo/engine to cool down , especially after it has been thrashed

hence turbo timer

ita a toad/clifford alarm seen one on a car, can start it up the same by one key press and same when you exit, in theory its to warm the car up and to let the turbo cool down, but done on a public highway its deemed illegal.

A kid at work has a new golf with the supercharger and turbo, and his does the same . He says it is standard on that model

If it's on a Nissan GT-R it's probably a GReddy or HKS turbo timer, and I'm not sure you could actually fit one to a VAG car.

My boss last year had the 1.4 twincharger Golf GT as a loan car for a month and it would do this now and again, normally depending on how spirited and long the previous drive had been.

This is the reason i would like one and was wondering what it was.

TBH i think it should be advised to anyone who tunes a car as your asking the Stock Turbo & engine components to do more than they were designed to do and pro-longing the life by allowing it to spool down and lube up properly along with other engine components can only be a good thing.

As for it being an offence that may be so but i doubt any copper would do you for 2 reasons

1. The engine only stays running for around 30 secs then stops so its not exactly a long time

2. The police have a similar system in their traffic vehicles for leaving the engine running without having the keys in to allow lights etc to stay on without draining the battery ande not having to leave the key in an unattended vehicle.

Now this is gonna seem like a REALLY stupid question but;

If it has a remote autostart thingy, on a manual would you have to leave in it neutral, or can it disengauge gears somehow? Just wondering out of curisorty more than anything . . .

No u need to leave it in neutral otherwise the car will jump as i made that mistake in tescos the other week !

No u need to leave it in neutral otherwise the car will jump forward as i made that mistake in tescos the other week !

Ah thanks, didnt no if it was clever enough to stop that happening. Would be funny to watch I guess as long as its not your car it lurches into!
