Removing Headlights

Featured Replies

I wanted to remove headlights so i can do something to them. i seen you can remove them without taking bumper off, i took the ''screws'' out to do it and basically can move it around but can pull out because i cant seem to pull out the cable for the power to them?

There is another bolt, way down at the back which is a right pain to get to. 10mm one I think it is.

The power cable will pull out but I found it easier to do once the PITA bolt down low and behind it was out so the whole thing moved forward and you could get more levarage on the clip for the wiring.

yeaa sorry i forgot to mention i got that one out too, but the cable feels too tight and not long enough to pull out the light and then remove?? also if i was to drop any of the bolts down from ther, would i have to take off the bumper?

Not sure, but I believe down on the inside bottom edge of the light unit there is a bit/lug which kind of sticks out and is secured onto the chassis.

From memory I am 99% sure that the bumper does have to come off for the headlights to come out. :)

Yeah you cant get onto the lower screw with the bumper on.

ohh okk, i read on here that you can remove the lights without taking bumper off.

well its feels like i can get the light out its just something else stopping it and its got to be the power cable?

on the drivers side, ther is a bit metal like a loop im just wondering what thats for outta curiousity?

Whereabouts? Inside the cover on the back, or somewhere else?

The plug can be unplugged in the engine bay before the light is taken out.

I havent got the workshop manual here but I thought there were four screws holding the headlamps in.

But the connectors pull off after you have pinched the tab over.

well thers three that i pointed out and the one down the back so im guessing thats the four. oh okk ill have another go tomorrow its hard because theres no room down the back of them

I think you will find the headlamp is deeper than it looks and you cant quite tip it enough to get it out without damaging the bumper. But its like a 10 min job to remove the bumper anyhow.

ohh rightt how do you remove the bumper?

Use the search facility on the group and it will be there

A couple or six Hex screws and pull forward

National

T20 screws in the arch liners.

Two T30 screws at the front

Three plastic clips underneath and it pulls off.

is defiently no way of getting the lights out without taking bumper off for certain?

:thumbdwn:

THE HEADLIGHTS CAN BE REMOVED WITHOUT REMOVING THE BUMPER !!

every headlight has 4 screws, same for halogens and same for xenons, 3 are visible in the picture above and the 4th is in the outer corner of the headlight, looking up (you can see it from above)

I put my head for it :D

I removed and put on with my own hands a halogen on my former 50kw Fabia and a xenon one on my vRS, so don't listen the "specialists" from service and the manuals because they lie...:P :D

I have also get my headlight removed serveral times whitout removing the bumper first. It takes some times, but it can be done :-)

I did it before with the bumper still on, but personally id take the bumper off if i was to do it again, was a really tight fit and was worried about making the bumper.

More than likely that while your happy to run the risk of marking your own bumper a 'liar' in a service dept like myself wouldn't want to risk damaging your car or your paint so would advise removing the bumper first.
