Power steering dash light

Featured Replies

On Boxing day evening my sister in law told me that the power steering light stayed on in the morning, but the car, a 53 plate Fabia comfort, drove as normal. When she got home my brother checked the handbook and went to investigate, he started the car the light was on for a couple of seconds then went out as normal. So far the light has not stayed on since that day.

Tonight I was putting the Wife's Fabia away and guess what, the power steering light stayed on. I drove the car around the block, parked in the drive, switched off, waited a few minutes and started the car. The light came on for a few seconds then went out as normal. Wierd or what? I'm thinking perhaps the cold damp weather might be causing a problem with a bad connection etc.

Anyone else out there had a similar problem?

Most likely battery is on it's last legs. The PAS takes a load of current. Common problem if the car sits for a few days not being used.

That sounds possible as the car has not been used much recently and when it has it's been short journeys at night etc.

My car is the same. Comes on randomly some mornings. Switch off, and restart and it stays off...

Strange thing is though, my car has been sat in the drive for 2 weeks while i wait on parts. Started it today, turned over really really slow, thought i was going to have to jump start it. Just started and no more, but the light never came on...

Exactly the same symptoms on wife's 53 Fab and has been going on for about a year with no adverse effects. Due to be plugged in to the machine that goes beep next week...

Got mine booked in a while back. The only stored fault was a low voltage one. Checked a few things, couldnt fault it...

Just waiting till i really need to replace the battery, because the car still starts fine and everything

Diesels clobber a car battery. The energy required to turn over an engine with 19:1 compression ratio, plus glow plug current is a battery killer. I would recommend replacing the battery every 4 years as matter of course. Maybe 5 years with Calcium or Silver Alloy battery. Borderline batteries put a strain on the alternator.
