Wiper blade wear

Featured Replies

Both pax / drivers wiper blades have served only 6500 miles and both sweep leaving areas uncleared. Have taken both off and thoroughly cleaned but with no obvious improvement. I would have expected wiper blades to achieve twice this mileage? Any comments?

Is the screen clear of road film/grease?

A good car glass cleaner should do the trick or glass polish.

Failing that PM me you want a brand new set for the front and a spare for the rear - surplus to requirements now.

ive done about 18k and mine are going aswell. how long are the front ones? dont have a tape measure :o

They should be changed every year or about 10k. If you keep standard wipers on much longer they can cause damage to the screen. Best place I have found for standard wipers is the dealer.

mine are the original on 23k miles and nearly 2 years old. just give them a good clean with vinegar, check for any damage or splits, if none are present then they will act like new again as the vinegar gets all the contaminents off and once clean will act like new again.

You will be telling me next that you boil your guitar strings :P

not at all, its a tip i got from an RAC advert and has saved me a fortune on wipers as mine used to get changed every 6 months or 10k, then i found out the reason they smear is all the crude that builds up and sticks to the blade and making it lumpy and then gives the look that the blade is split/damaged. once cleared with vinegar and checked for any damage or contaminates left it should be smooth and next time you do the window it be like new.

Anyway if it dont work out its only a free satchet of vinegar and a serviette from the local takeaway

SMS, yea...I found vinegar works great too! Have used it for years. And errr...I also boil my guitar strings!!;)

Has improved with the use of vinegar but one will need to be replaced. Thanks

no probs, if in the 5 years of your car you need to replace them every 10 months and the vinegar method makes them last another 2 months or more you will save the money of 1 set of blades ;)

Thanks to Zebra I changed on today and this on a mileage of 6700, lots of vinegar plus regular wipes to remove grease. The new one is so clear the difference is amazing. That said the blades are made of plastic.
