FSi petrol engine cover removal

Featured Replies

Can anyone talk me through how to remove the engine cover from my VRs, as I want to fit a boost gauge and I'm trying to suss out how much vacuum pipe will be reqd and where to route through into the cabin.

I've tried a search with no luck.

Cheers

Pull each corner up in turn, start with the right hand back usually but be ready for some cracking noises.

Do it with a warm engine though and spray the rubber bits with silicone spray when you push it back.

Your vacuum connection will be on the front right of the engine. You'll need some sort of adaptor to make the connection.

Cheers guys,

I think I've sussed out the necessary T-piece and reducer on e-bay shop: Venair Silicone - 10mm T with a 6mm t-off, then use a 6mm - 4mm straight reducer which will then take the 4mm I.D pipe I need for the boost gauge. Cost of around a fiver!

I'm then going to fit a Revotec pillar mount which are plastic (carbon look). These are around £17 but need to be cut to the same profile as the trim pnl using a profile gauge and then 2 mounting bolts need to be bonded into the back of it as the pod will only fall off using velcro.

I did this on my Scooby by welding a bolt to a large penny washer and then bonding into the back of the pod with Araldite or similar. The pod can then be bolted securely on to the A trim pnl without any fastners showing. Holes are drilled through the pnl at the back of the pod to feed the vac pipe and wiring through for the gauge illumination. I'll post up pics when I've done it.

good luck taking it off, mine was so stiff, i actually thought it was going to snap and the dealer was wrong, but then it popped up

I'm then going to fit a Revotec pillar mount which are plastic (carbon look).

Noooooooooooooooooooo - Did you used to have a Nova??
