Remvoing a scrape/ scuff

Featured Replies

With it being winter, and obviously not getting to clean the car as much as i'd like... it was only yesterday when i gave her a good going over  that i noticed on the rear bumper (just under bump strip towards near side) a scrape... obviously someone or thing has knudged along the bumper arggggg

I did wonder a few weeks back, whether i had missed a bit of grime when giving the car a quick wash, but now its turned out it is what we all dread :(

Anyway, after TBM washing, risning/ wiping all as should do, i went into my box of tricks, using Poorboys SSR 2 and a german applicator pad.. i have managed to somewhat remove or maybe dull most of the scrape... buts its certainly still visible... i went on to protect the area with poorboys EX-P sealent.

I will get a good high res pic as soon as i have some light on my side, am thinking that only a machine polish is going to remove this (which i dont have yet)

any other items i could try by hand? A stronger polish?

be grateful for your help with this :)

Load a picture up mate and I will offer some advice.......

cheers Baker.... i'll see if i can get one today, at work now, and only got my N95 moby, see what i can achieve with that, when it lightens up outside.

Having seen your numerous threads both here and detailing world, i certainly will value your advice... so i was wanting to ask about this new product named kestrel... machine polisher... any good ? or should i hold off and get the Meguirs or Porter.

No worries Lee..........post up a picture and I will see what I can see..........:P

Thanks for the kind comment and I will do my best to offer some advice, I have had a few people ask me about the Kestrel and I don't own one but as I do own two DA's - UDM and G220, I can only say that the Kestrel is very similar and will more than likely do a similar job on any paintwork.

The thing to realise is that a DA will never remove deep scratches and swirls as it just doesn't build up enough heat in one area to remove the lacquer as a rotary can but the DA will go a long way to make paintwork look a lot better. Ensuring that you have the right polish and pad for the application can achieve great results.

So to answer your question, the Kestrel is more than likely a good buy but getting a good polish and pad combination is key.........

Right... here we go...

Obviously with two days of driving since cleaning Sunday, with the wet roads.. picked up some grime, but am sure you can see the scrape even now... and this is far less obvious than it was before SSR2 with germ.app.pad.

Hope the images work.. fist time with Photobucket lol

There's the main area, the kind of oval shape, and then the two thinner strips just above.. if that helps at all.

I am pretty confident I could get around 85% of that out..........

To be honest mate I have had another forum member contact me from Sheffield asking me about his paintwork, maybe a road trip is in order............

I am not saying the DA would take it all out but it would make it look almost un-noticable.......:P

dont know about you, but it really winds me up how some people can do this, and not bother to tell you about it arggggg

Ah rite another sheffield member hey... i have been wanting for sometime to get my hands on a machine polisher... i've always been keen on cleaning any car i have owned and NEVER taken one to a car wash... even old bangers lol.

This car is 5 years old, not too much mileage at 55K, but certainly not been looked after washing wise... so might be the time to bite the bullet and get a DA... just wondering whether to get the Kestrel or one of the more expensive ones ?????? Your opinion?

I guess next question would be... what combo of pad's / polishes for Black Magic paint ????

I'm really grateful for your advice, and maybe a Pm from you with regards your services.... and i'll see if the money would be available for you to solve this for me :)

Just one of those things mate...........

Like I have said above I haven't used a Kestrel but from what I have read you should be fine if you wanted to take the plunge.......

If only saying one pad and polish was the combination to your paintwork colour was the simple answer, there are so many variables mate and it really is a case of trialling some but I would recommend Menz, Megs and 3M pads and polishes for VAG paintwork.......

Will drop you a PM......
