Octavia II - today Collumbus + Premium HF installation, changing BSG for Corner ligh

Featured Replies

Today I am going to install into my 05 LHD Octy Tdi new sat nav Columbus instead my old Nexus, old HF interface will be changed for Premium with rSAP + new CAN Gateway with index Q to work with new HF Premium interface... I will be also changing Central Electronics controler - BSG with 30 byte coding to enable Cornering Lights.... I am from CZ, but I work in UK - Newbury.... I will post pictures from installation later... If you have any questions about installation, do not hesitate to ask me...

Anyone around Newbury who has V4 version of Western Europe map?

Edited by milhausek1

is V4 of the map now available, I believe the latest version is still V3.

From what I can tell V4 seemed to be a VW only release.

Apparently (can't confirm) a problem with some RNS510 units and the V3 software meant people could only enter the first 3 digits of a postcode search.

The V4 release fixed it so you could do a 5 digit search.

As far as I know there is no difference between the maps on V3 and V4.

I've got one mate happy to hook you up. I'm 7 mins from Thatcham near jnct 12 M4.

I'm interested in the details of your electronics upgrade as I believe that I need to upgrade my own canbus to add a reversing camera etc.

Hello,

I'm from Switzerland and I own a Skoda Octavia built in Feb 2006 that has a Nexus built-in and I would like to add the mp3 support to it.

One of my ideas would be to simply replace the old nexus with the new columbus and use all the new features it offers.

Therefore I would like to know where have you got the columbus device itself and for what price? Also I'm really interested into the fact wheter you kept all the remote control possibilities of the steering wheel and the board computer.

Thanks in advance for your feedbacks and if s/o has any other experiment with adding the mp3 capability to it please feel free. I'm gona look over the forum right now.

You can get the Columbus quite cheaply now on Ebay (between £500 - £900 GBP depending on how lucky you are)

As long as the unit is coded correctly using VCDS or VAS (Dealership computer) then the MFSW will work no problem and the Maxidot works pretty much straight away.

MP3 works straight away with Columbus as it has an internal 30Gb HDD (of which around 19gb is available for MP3) just load them on from either CD/DVD or SD card. Don't think you can add MP3 to Nexus as it would probably mean reflashing the firmware to do it. But i could be wrong

Hy Carl,

Firstable thanks a lot for you prompt reply :) I appreciate. However could you be a little more precise about the point

.

Does it means it requires some additional equipement to tune the board computer or anything alike? To describe the context I'm a graduated computer scientist but I have only small knowledge about board computing stuff. Especially when it goes arround cars.

No the unit is just a straight swap for your Nexus. You will find that the Satnav/Music/DVD etc will work straight away. However some people have reported issues with the directions being shown on the Maxidot display and the MFSW working.

VCDS is a cable you buy from Rosstech. Using a Windows based laptop you then download the VCDS programme and go into the ECU and alter a few settings to allow the MFD3 to work with the Maxidot & MFSW. VAS is just the Dealers equivalent. But is capable of a lot more

All the info you need is here http://www.ross-tech.com

and to help with the install follow this guide Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide its for an MFD2 but the process is the same

If you already have Nexus you may find it just goes straight in and everything works as the ECU should already be fully coded.

If you do get one and have any problems just give me a shout or post on the forum and someone will be able to help

I'm back,

I've read some information mentioning that the radio-code of the RNS510 is now generated using the car's serial number and the RNS's serial number and that only VW official reseller are able to generate this code. Until their I'm fine just visit your local dealer and get the new code.

However where I'm starting to be confused is when eBay sellers list a Radio code card is bundled with the unit how have they managed to generate this code that will match my own car's serial number?

Thanks for information, feedback...

Cheers

PS: Last but not least, if you mount a VW branded RNS510 into a Skoda it will work excepted you'll get a vw branding on startup instead of a skoda and the colors will match vw and not skoda. I'm I right?

As far as i know when you buy a RNS510 (i got mine from Ebay) they have a code with it which is what is used to unlock the device so you can use it.

Once you enter this code it is then stored in the ECU. That way everytime you disconnect the battery there is no need to re-enter the code.

I suppose it depends on were you get the RNS510 from. As long as its from one of the genuine sellers on Ebay they are usually units that have come from written off cars or reconditioned units from the factory.

I believe what you are referring to is the code that is generated once the unit has been used in the car and is then stored in the ECU this then stops the unit being stolen and put straight into another car. However i could be wrong

I believe that VW units will work straight away you just get the VW splash screen, VW dealerships as POI's and the colour scheme is VW i.e. Red backlight buttons. But other than that it will work and iirc there are a couple of members on here that have VW ones in Skoda vehicles.
