My fabia classic 1.4 MPI 8v drinks a lot of fuel

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a fabia classic 1.4 MPI 8V, 2000. 58k miles. I found it consumes fuel a lot. 37 liters of patrol can only drive for about 210 miles. Do you have any suggestions that which part I need to check out? This car comes with full service history, doesn't seems to have any major part fault.

What shall I do?

thanks

don't floor it everywhere?

Mine averages between 30-35 mpg depending on how I drive, and 40 if I decide to be anal about driving and 17/8 if I decide to be an idiot about driving.

The MPI engine does that. Nothing wrong with it, it's just thisty. Especially in winter.

Agreed. I had one as my forst car, and although I once got an average of 52mpg (3 miles downhill, feathering throttle), the combined figure was more like 35. Or 15 if I was in a 'fun' mood (and all was safe...) :)

Your range sounds quite normal to me.

Yep , around 36 MPG with mine at the moment , the MPi engine is decades old technology with a 21st Century VW update. It does lose a few MPG in the cold weather though.

Yep, that's about what mine does when i'm messing around, does about 300 if i'm driving economically.

I once got 500 milles out of a tankful. It was 99% highway but I had 4 people + some extras in the boot and most of the time went 90 mph :D It was not fun at all btw... :D

Dang, mine must be a one off.

In really bad traffic, (read first gear avg 8MPH for my whole 25 mile journey), I returned 28mpg.

Normal driving in rush hour, I average 38 - 42mpg, motorway driving around 60-ish I can actually get 53mpg or a bit more, though at my 'normal' speed, it's more like 48mpg.

I tend to boot away through the gears to get up to speed pretty quickly so I'm not exactly chugging. I guess even so, my right foot ain't half as heavy as most folk. :P

A tank normally returns, (from full to the fuel light coming on) around 380 miles.
