More central lock problems.

Featured Replies

This is on the my wife's 2001 VRS.

She called me at work to tell me the car wont lock from the remote and the inteior light was staying on. She locked it manualy an tryed the fob again, it unlocks fine but wont lock. The interior light stays on when all the doors are shut and locked. The central locking wont work on the key either. But if I leave the windows down and do the key trick on the drivers door lock, the windows goup fine.

I'm sure it's been covered here before, but if you could just help me out that would be great:) I'm hopeing it's something simple like a stuck switch? maybe frozen:confused:

Please help me:O

Best thing you can do is get the car scanned by someone with VAGCom, or a code reader. If there are fault codes logged, try searching the code(s) on RossTech wiki. It does sound like you could have a central convenience controller issue. If you do, you may notice the red LED at the drivers door lock staying on constantly while driving. If this is happening, I would check the loom connector behind the drivers door card. These are prone to allowing water in and corroding the pins in the connector. If this is the case, you could try cleaning off the pins, and spraying with WD40 before re-connecting the loom.

My guess is that one of the microswitches in the door lock mechanism has failed (this can also be caused by dry solder joints). The car thinks the door is still open, hence the interior light remains on.

Search this forum and you will find plenty of threads. As a starting point, take a look at
