HI everyone,

Ok just had the car serviced at VAGTUNE in alysbury, Brilllient service and freindly people I am very pleased with the service and the work done. But I have a question.

I looked over the invoice and i can see they have used SLX longlife oil 5W-30. Now I thought this was incorrect so i went to Pilling Skoda in Milton Keynes and asked them wht oil I should have. They also gave me a bottol of Longife and that was 5W-30. I said the service manager that I was under the understanding it was the wrong oil and i should have 5W-40 505,01 spec. He said that the oil he gave me is what they have alsways used in TDI engines, and is the only one they have on the sehlf.

So I am confused. What should I do. I have looked back on previous history of the car and nothing is said about the oil.

Any advice is appriciated.

It would help if you could tell us what model of car you have.

In that case it needs VW 505.01 oil as the engine uses PD injectors. I'm amazed the dealer does not know this! The only thing that will be effected is the camshaft lobes that operate the PD injector rocker shaft. With the wrong oil, the cam lobes and rockers will wear very quickly.

the stuff you have may be 507 00 spec, which covers 505 01 aswell

As some of you know I used to work at Pillings and to save on having multiple bulk tanks we just used the Longlife oil in all of our engines, it certianly does them no harm at all as the spec of the Longlife exceedes the PD spec oil.

First time I have heard of VAGTUNE in Aylesbury, getting crowded around this neck of the woods with Independants no wonder dealers are struggling..lol.

ahh ok ill check and see what spec it is but it shold be ok? Thanks for the advice unit 18 and you too BRUN.....I only used VAGTUNE because they are right up the road from my office. I must say they were very good, I am going to have my break upgrade done soon and was going to either try yourself or backdraft in bletchley.

I am trying as many of the VAG guarges i can to see whitch is the best. im not a fan of indi-tek. no problems with there work but they just seem to treat you like and idiot, and don't realy seem to like the modified car. Could be wrong but that was the impression i got.
