Video: Skoda's final shakedown test ahead of Rallye Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

Yeah, good video - roll on the Monte. Can Skoda challenge at the sharp end? Or will it be as it was in the WRC? They do seem to have done miles of testing - but is it enough? Should they have entered a few Rallies at the end of 2008?

I have spent a lot of time (probably too much!) watching videos of this car testing and I am confident it will be competitive with the 207 and Punto in terms of speed. Of course there are a lot of variables in a live rally (reliability of car and drivers, setup, tyre choices e.t.c. Can't wait to find out how it goes!

My biggest concern is budget - they never had enough money when sales of new cars were well in excess of plan, what now? With the Vrchlabi plant threatened with permanent closure and possibly worse to come, not a good time to be finally entering proper events with a car that's already been too long coming.

Well, IRC is cheaper than WRC, and they don't have to do all the rounds like you do in WRC in order to score points. S2000 cars are also designed largely to be attainable for privateers, so if the car is good they might even turn a small profit selling and maintaining them.

They have had enough budget to have a massive test programme, whether there is enough to run an IRC programme + further development we will see.
