Service/cam belt cost shock!

Featured Replies

My 1.8T is shortly due it's 70K service...

My local dealer has quoted me around £650 for a major service, brake fluid change and new cam belt

Can anyone recommend a cheaper, reliable alternative to a main dealer?...

Hi, you have to give us a chance by posting your location

Sorry :o

Bishops Stortford, so anywhere in North/East London, Herts or Essex... :)

Doesnt sound horrendous for a main dealer, my local VAG specialist, non Dealer would do the above for approx £500 including replacing the water pump, that quote for a diesel however, although I suspect the petrol might not be much different in price...

:)

I can hear the calling from here.....Lummoxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!

My 1.9TDi belt, pump, tensioner, aux belts cost £422 at a VW dealer

Major service has to be £240

Brake fluid £30

So all in all I don't think the quote is that bad, it's a lot of money I admit, but it'd still be £550 to do that lot on a Vectra.

Not a bad quote for a dealer, and it's in the south east where everything costs more generally compared to here in the north west.

We are on the Bucks/Northants boarder.

Certanly knock a few hundered off that quote.

Would be worth the trip down ;)

Made sense for my in law to drive 100miles to Unit 18 then 100 miles home again

Don't think Rugby can be much further away. ( goes to look at map )

Worth the distance from: Rugby, Warwickshire, UK to: nn29 7nr - Google Maps

I suppose you have tried Skoda Harlow , they only quoted me £20 over my own dealer in East Sussex .

I'm in the process of drawing up a list of jobs, don't you worry ;)

Trans City Motors in Walthamstow? They charged me £350ish for the cambelt and water pump. You could also try these guys:

EXPERT VW AUDI Ltd - Who we are

Recently did my basic service for £80 and it's £120 for a major service.

Whatever you do, you can get the work done for a lot less than £650

I'd be interested to know what they call a major service, as the parts cost most of that trade, + several hours work.

Greg.
