vRS tyres, timing belt and bits

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I had lots of useful useful avice from everyone on here so i'm going to go for some more.

I've got an Octavia vRS 2004 with only 36k on the clock. I'm fairly sure it's going to need a cambelt change in the next service so can someone tell me where is the best place to have this done and how much it's going to cost? I travel the country alot so i can go to most places.

Also my tyres are a bit on the worn side. Every time i accelerate away from the severn bridge i get a flashing traction control so i think it's time for a new set of fronts. Can anyone recommend a tyre/make combo? I'm not looking for anything too pricey but i've made the mistake of putting sticky tyres on before that have killed my mpg.

Cambelt and water pump (Must be done together) on mine are going into my local Skoda dealer. I could do it myself or pay someone cheaper to do it, but I would rather the Skoda receipt and if it goes wrong they have no choice, but to replace with new genuine parts ;)

Think I was quoted £380 for the work :)

I also asked about best tyres on another site. I will post details later on with what answers I was gave :)

Toyo T1-R is my personal fav, good tyre and not too expensive.

Make sure they are replacing everything when doing the cambelt, the tensioner damper is quite important but is £70 on its own.

Send me PM if you can get to me and want a quote.

Just had a set of four of these fitted in 225/45 and can't comment yet as they're not run in and the roads are too icy to really drive. However, price wise for a not top-of-the-range, but not budget alternative, they seem perfectly positioned.

I want reasonable grip, but price is always a primary concern.

Toyo T1-R, Goodyear F1 Assymetrics or Vredestein Ultrac were all recommended. The Goodyear and Ultrac would die to quick on the front of the VRS (Due to camber), so I asked about the Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, but no one replied lol Got a good review on the website I saw them on.

I'm another fan of the Toyos.

I've never used Uniroyal Rainsport, but I've never been keen on any Uniroyal I have used.

Listen to Lummox about cambelt kits, for he knows whereof he speaks.

I am running the Verdestein Ultrac on my Octy. I do drive briskly too.

The fronts lasted 18000 miles and the rears are still on and have covered 22000 miles.

After having the conti sport contact 2 and the Dunlop sport maxx I feel the Ultrac tires are far superior and have lasted almost twice as long.
