MFD2 Telephone Connection Help needed

Featured Replies

I'm installing a handsfree kit in my Octavia which has an MFD2 head unit.

I am trying to confirm what connections are required on the headunit multiplug.

Below I have a copy of the pinouts which I have taken from Octavia-vrs.com, and I have labled what I belive are the connections I need. Can any one confirm these are the right connections?

Also what do I need to get in the way of additional plugs, and terminals for these plugs to allow me to connect it up. I want to make sure I have everything before I start.

I do not want to go down the route of buying a specific car radio adaptor lead because these are expensivem usually unneccessary and also make it difficult to fit the radio back in becasue of the space limitations.

The connections I'm not too sure about are the +12v permenent feed and the +12v Ignition feed but I'm not too concerned about these as I can confirm them when the headunit is out using a multimeter.

I connected a Nokia bluetooth unit to my stream HU & the connections look the same as your diagram. The speaker connections and radio mute are correct, but the only power connections I used were out of the fuse box directly to the Nokia unit. You can get the block terminal and the connectors with cable from Skoda and they are not expensive. Check Vrstu's site as I think he quotes the part numbers.

There is no ignition switched live on the HU. You'll need to source it elsewhere, normally the fuse panel.

You'll need the 'green' plug and the repair wires that fit in it too as well as a repair wire for the audio mute.

If it were me doing it then I'd mount the phone unit under the dash by the fuse panel, take switched and perm lives from the fuse panel and use the fuse panel mounting with a ring tongue as a ground.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know what the part numbers of the Connectors (Green Plug) and repair wires are that I will need so I can get them all sorted before I make a start at fitting the kin.

Cheers

Just looking through the MFD2 installation guide on the Octavis-vrs.com website, it lists a 12 Pin Green Flat Contact Housing (Plug) Radio/Telephone Connection - 3B7 035 447 B - £3.38

Is this the connector I will require for the installation of my phone?

And if so, looking at the pin out diagram it has some connections for the Sat Nav. As my car has the sat nav installed, is it likely to already have this connector?

If so, all I will require is 2 of the repair wired to fit this connector, and one for the telephone mute?

Does anyone know the part numbers of these wires?

The green plug is the one for the phone connection, you will need this and the two connectors. You should only require the connnector for the radio mute.

Any Part Numbers yet?

Thanks for that, I now know the part numbers for the Connector plug, and the speaked cables.

All I need to know now is the part number for the wire to connect the Telephone Mute into the existing connector. does anyone know the part number for this?

On the Nokia kit I fitted there was a yellow wire from the unit for the radio mute, I just crimped a suitable connector to it.

I'v got the yellow wire coming from the Nokia kit which needs to be connected to one of the pins in the back of the head unit. I know which pin I need, all I need is the part number of the connector wire which fits into the multiplug on the car wireing loom.

Any Part Numbers yet?

000 979 133 will do you for the radio Mute and the Power. 000 979 009 will do for the green plug.

Thats great thanx.

I already have the other half of a cable for the mute then 000 979 113 as this is the same as was used on my Fabia. I just wanted to be certain it was the same so I dont get part way through the installation and find I needed a different cable.

I will call in at the dealers tomorrow and order the green connector plug and connections, and then hopefully I'm ready to start the installation.

Use your multimeter to find the fuseways on the panel, you'll need a couple of low value fuses.

It's 133 for the radio mute not 113.

Best route from the fuse panel to the radio is across behind the dash insert.

Make sure you know you to open the fuse panel to push a cable in and ditto the quadlock for the radio mute.

Well spotted, that was a typing error.

I'm not too concerned about picking up the +12v supply and the ignition supply, I would have though there will be plenty of options once I get started, and like you sat, with a multimeter it will be easy to check.

The loom which came with the Nokia kit has inline fuses in it, and I was planning on mounting the control box on the passenger side of the car at the side of the glove box which can be accessed from the removable panel on the end of the dashboard.

Do you have any tips/advice for removing the radio and the quadlock connector? and once the installation is complete, do I need to do anything to activate it in the head unit?

Does the MFD2 unit have a code which I need to make sure I have before I disconnect it and remove it?

I fitted my Nokia unit under the ashtray unit.

I'm just trying to make it easier for you based on my experiance, and that is you have everything you need under the drivers knee panel which also has the room for the controller. You can fuse it directly from the fuse panel with blade fuses which are then readily accessible.

The headunit is held in by four torx screws. You shouldn't need a code.
