Cracked Indicator lens

Featured Replies

05 plate 2.0 tdi Elegance

Dealer says they need to see the car before they order nearside door mirror lens. This would mean a thirty mile round trip, then another trip to fit the lens.

Is there really more than one lens to fit this car?

surely they could search with the VIN number or look at a cameraphone pic?

There are two types to my knowledge, the one with the puddle lamp and the one without.

Yours is an Elegance so has the puddle/boarding lamps built in to the mirror repeater lens, and its the whole bottom part of the mirror housing that will need replacing as the clear and black plastic parts are one piece.

Its also a reasonable DIY job too, i've fitted 2 to date without any problems.

The nearside repeater lens and boarding light unit for my old elegance was part number 1Z0 949 101 D

Luke_a managed to clobber one of mine while he was borrowing the car, I rung my dealer and I was told the only option was to buy a replacement lamp unit at about £35+vat because they don't sell the plaggy lens covers...

It's only a small crack on the NS mirror edge so I havn't bothered.

get the glue gun out, a miracle for all sins!

Thanks for replies.

Normally wouldn't be too bothered but dealer had agreed to fix the lens when I bought the car.

So - if they've agreed to replace the part when you bought it - why do they need to see it?

At the time of purchase I was told the part was in stock and would be fitted before I picked the car up. Unfortunately they forgot this little job. I don't think the parts/servicing people I spoke to later have bothered to check the details on my car. I will offer to e-mail a couple of pictures.
