iPod Touch & Aftermarket HU

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I am looking at installing a connects2, dension unit or possible replacing my symphony HU with an aftermarket to give me full iPod control.

Can anyone share there experiences with any aftermarket head units that will give me full control over my first generation iPod Touch.

TIA

I've had an Alpine IVA-D106 single DIN slide-out DVD player in my Touran, which gave full touch screen control of my ipod video, and, with the correct lead, will allow you to watch videos from the ipod as well.

It therefore depends whether or not the ipod Touch connection is the same as the ipod video.

I'm hoping in the near future to have the Alpine fitted into my Octavia. The standard Stream stereo sounds OK, but having only the one CD slot for mp3 CDs is too restrictive, so I want to get the ipod back in the car ASAP.

You could use the denison gateway 100 (Charges Ipod Touch, but doesnt support USB devices) or the 300 (Doesnt Charge Ipod Touch, but does support USB devices)

I have a gateway 300 that I got from a member on here, it was easy to install, and saved having to do any rewiring, didnt require any further wire harnesses :D

Just lift out HU, pull out CDC cable, and plug the gateway cable in its place (and connect up the CDC cable to the optional adapter if you get that as well), run the cable for the ipod where ever you want it to go and plug it into the gateway. Put your HU back and hey presto its done :D

The reason I didnt go with the connects2 and the kufatec is that with these AFAIK you are limited to 99 tracks per CD (playlist or folder) which wasnt too bad if you have a disc next/prev button, but if you have specific buttons for each CD, you are limited to that, for my MFD2 it has buttons for CD 1-6, so I would have been limited to 99 tracks x 6 CDs, just under 600 tracks. Not good, for me anyway...

The gateways handle it in a different way, each CD is a way of controlling the ipod, not just specific playlists or folders (e.g. CD1 you choose playlists, CD2 by Artists, CD3 by Album) so you are not limited, it is a bit confusing at first but it soon comes naturally.

Technically (just me thinking out loud) on a gateway 300, you could fit a 500GB Mass Storage drive onto it and be able to use all of it for tens of thousands of songs. (Although Denison do state that for large USB drives (not Ipods) it would take a LONG time to catalogue/index the files)

If you like your current HU I would recmnd a gateway as an alternative to going aftermarket

This list shows what ipods are compatible with what denison products.

I've got a Kenwood KVT-7200DVD with iPod lead. Full control over the ipod (ipod classic, iphone). All controlled from the fold out touch screen on the HU.

Thanks all for your replies so far.

Does anyone with a Fabia have an Alpine iDA-X100 or a iDA-X300HAL that supports the iPod Touch 1st straight out of the box?

TIA
