Heated Mirrors Question - Re Turning Off

Featured Replies

After much reading on here Re. Heated Mirrors. It would appear that the Middle position for the control knob.(heater emblem) is the position for the heated mirrors to be on .. & in this postion they are on permanently !!

So to turn them off (As i don't want them on permanently) does the switch have to be in the L or R position ??

Im Confused.Com

Interesting post from BAS

Thanks

Dean

Until 04/2002 the default timer was 20 mins - from 05/2002 the heater was continously on when selected!

You can VAG-COM the timer setting on the heating cycle timer as follows:

Controller adjustment

STG 09 (electrical system) select

STG Login - > function 11

Note: Before the adjustment a Login has to take place. --Login code: 21343

STG adjustment - > function 10

channel 003 (heated outside mirror)

Disconnection time of the heated outside mirrors.

Range of values: 1-253 = 0,66-173 min

Default value (to 04/02): 29 = 20 min

Default value (starting from 05/02): 254 (without disconnection)

That way you can set it for any time you wish.

I got my car back from the DEALERS with the switch left ON!:thumbdwn:

Better to VAG-COM it no matter what - heater elements usually have a fairly heavy load, and someone else might leave it on uneccesarily!

more VAG-COM setting goodies on http://www.briskoda.net/forums/diagn...s-fabia/52036/

N.B. Information on the VAG ECU settings was sourced from the kind people at OpenObd.org.

Yes to turn them off its needs to be in the L or R position

as said above, I had only found out about it a year or so since we owned the car that I need to stick it either right or left.

I thought they turned of automatically after a pre determined time, therefor there not on permantly. You can here a relay click when they turn off.

EDIT: I do however usually turn them off manually once the glass is clear.

I'd aways just play safe and use them only as long as you need them, ie switching them off as soon as the mirrors clear. I've already paid the price for leaving my Passat B5 ones on (heaters burnt out - needed new heated mirror glasses).

Even when the kn0bs on the de-mist setting they only go on and off with the Rear de-mister though, right?

And the rear di-mister is on a timer the 1st time you press the button.. manual says if you turn it off and on again, or turn it back on once it's timed out, it'll stay on till the cars turned off.

There on different channel numbers, 003 and 004 if I can remember. So in answer to your question, no they are not. They are seperate

Oh, fair enough.. Thought I'd read it somewhere in the manual. :)

Hum having a post 05/02 car (Polo) I should really do this! I'm not sure if much can be done with the 2000MY Passat though - but if I don't go and have a "try" I'll never find out! Unfortunately on the Passat the heated rear window is just an ON/OFF switch!

I suggest putting in the value 15. Which is roughly 10mins

i never even knew i had heated mirrors - must read the car manual !

Has your electric mirror switch got a logo of a heater between the R and L selector? If it has then you should (or have had) heated mirrors, if not then "no".

i've got this.... switched it to R anyway

Sorted, now all you need to do is wait for the right conditions to turn up so that you can check that they still work!!
