Brake discs covered by warranty?

Featured Replies

I received a phone call yesterday, January 13th 2009 from the main dealer who last serviced my Octavia just before it was out of warranty last September (2008).The person told me it had been noticed that my front tyres were down to 3mm and that there was rust on my brake discs around the edges. I was asked if I required them to examine the car now that four months or so had passed and that the discs now may need replacing.

Surely I should have been informed about this at the time if there was an issue with the discs.

What do you think?Monkster.

Brake friction parts are not a warranty item unless it's a manufacturing defect.

I guess they are struggling and now fishing around for extra business. Have a look at the disks yourself and see what they are like.

You've had another 4 months use out of the discs since then anyway. Discs are consumable items, they wear out. Wear would never be covered under warranty, although one or two people have had success claiming for warped discs in the past.

If you use your car very little, this can lead to rust forming on the surface of the discs, and digging deeper into the metal than when the car is used frequently. As you use the brakes, it wipes off the surface rust, so daily use helps prevent deeper rust pockets forming.

Sorry

As has been said

Brake discs are a serviceable part and does wear

The discs have worn and not a manufacturing defect sorry

I used to do warranty claims at a couple of Skoda dealers , so I know what is covered
