problem with T reg Felicia

Featured Replies

Hi new to this forum so thanks in advance. My problem with the car is simple i don't think its a good starter, you have to rev it to get it to settle it seems if you don't it'll take quite a while to start. There doesn't seem to be any specific conditions for this but then again it could be i just expect it to happen. Another problem is when you aren't really moving the revs can just drop and it feels like its gonna stall, usually followed by the engine felling very sluggish.

i think they are connected the first problem is the worst, its not near payday yet but my missus reckons its the battery. what do you good people think

cheers

Clean the throttle body first and maybe replace the temperature sensor or thermostat if no improvement. (assuming a 1.3 petrol engine)

yes will do i thought it could be the battery cos if it was having trouble starting it would kinda judder a bit like the engine wasn't starting but it was trying i will try that thanks. it is a 1.3 petrol by the way

same as fordfan, also check that the clip holding the throttle cable at the throttle body, hasnt jumped a ridge in the cable

When was it last serviced? It might be worth putitng a new set of spark plugs in and an air filter.

My felicia is exactly the same so I'll be watching this with interest. Do you have any more info? how long have you had it?

When you say the revs drop, do you mean when you rev it up and let it fall down after taking your foot off the gas, does it fall below it's idle point then slowly rise back up?

Unless the engine's turning over slowly on the starter, I don't think the battery will be the problem, since that's the only time (assuming the alternator's in good condition) that the battery condition matters to the running.

The others make good points. Does the car seem to be idling particularly slowly? Or is the rough running only on a closed throttle when cold and warming up?

clean throtel body, that causes bad starting, poor performances and irradic tick over

replace spark plugs and gap them correctly, that cuses poor starting and rough idle

check fuel mix (if its a carburetor) that causes poor starting and slugish acceleration

and the top one is ignition timing, thats the thing that if all is ok, causes bad starting, bad idle and poor acceleration

i think your's is in need of a full service
