54 Plate Mk 1 Oct vRS.. talk to me

Featured Replies

Hey

First looked at these 2 years ago, got impatient and ended up buying a mk3 Mondeo TDCi which has been a great servant for that time.

However, having a bit scout around I have found the following car at my local dealer and am EXTREMELY tempted

Heres the car:

Skoda Octavia 1.8 vRS 5-Dr Hatchback

so, what should i be looking out for?

Price wise is that as good a deal as i believe or could i get him down a notch or 2?

Plus... tell me the usual.. mpg/tyre cost/service cost...

Cheers folks

MPG .............Anything from 7-40+ Depends if you drive miss daisy or if your mr lead boot.

Tyres £50 per corner for cheap crap that will kill you given the chance, £100 for something decent (toyos).

Servicing about £250 iirc from dealer for nothing fancy eg Oil and filters £120-150 from indy. Unless like me you have mate who does for peanuts.

Price wise you may be able too knock them down, You need too find out if the cambelt has been done as they are every four years/60k.

HTH

Looks OK and I am sure you could get it a bit cheaper :)

Check for a full service history and cam belt change :)

am i right in saying that the coil pack was/is an issue on the 1.8t? Also, water pump? Should it have been 'upgraded'?

if i can get him to circa 1k to change i reckon i would be mad not to.......

water pump should have been done same time as Cam belt.

4.5K max you should be looking to get it for IMO

The bonnet doesn't look like it lines up with the wings, and a grill is missing!

The under-tray is hanging down too. On a personal note I don't think I'd even bother going to look at it if that's the best they can show off the car.

There is a dent in the front corner of the bonnet, and the figures they are quoting for the performance/torque etc are wrong for this car, as is the spare being a steel wheel.

If you are really interested then go in with a silly offer, but there are better about for this type of money.

I think thats a problem with the Skoda UK stuff they provide the dealers with, I was looking at the laminate they gave me when I bought mine and it quotes the 0-60 as 8.0 seconds and top speed as 135mph when IIRC it should be 0-60 in 7.5 and top speed 145mph

I think the car in question is a bit overpriced, in todays current climate. I saw a 53 Plate black one with 50k miles in an independent dealer in Eastbourne last summer for £5000 and that had sat-nav, sunroof and a warranty!

As suggested above that example looks tatty. There is a horrid dent in the bonnet by the headlight and the interior is probably too dirty to get nice again.

On closer inspection that does look a turd. lol

cheers folks...

have to agree, having spent more time looking at the ad ( not had a chance to look at it in the flesh yet ) it does look like it has not been cared for at all.

Will probably still go and have a gander tho

If i were you, i'd hold out for a members car on here, at least you'll know it's history.

Both of my vRS's have came from Briskoda members. :)

i went from a mk3 mondeo to the vrs and its the best move i have ever made , i was a staunch mondeo owner having had 4 of them , but so glad i made the move to the skoda , it keeps me smiling long after the mondeo ever did , you will not be dissapointed

Have to agree, i would rather buy a car off here than from a garage.

At Least it will have been looked after on here!

It may turn out to be an alright buy if you can haggle the garage for a better price. Quoting dent, a good vax and missing bumper grill as bargining points. Check for good service history etc. Get a Check done on the reg to check for accidents and other unwanted issues. Spend a lot of time checking it over, maybe the pics don't do it justice. When I bought mine the paint work was dull the interior looked like a farmer owned it, but it came up with a little TLC. As long as you feel comfortable with the buy and not been pressured then you might get a bargin. As others have said, you may want to view a few more though to get a general idea of typical condition and what you are getting for your money.

The Skoda badge is missing from the rear passenger side wheel as well
