Fabia 1.4 engine versions

Featured Replies

Hi,

Thinking about getting a Fabia as a 2nd car alongside our Octavia.

My question is, there are several versions of the 1.4 - 68, 75 and 100 bhp according to the Parkers website. I am after a car for only a couple of grand, so around 2001.

Is there an easy way to know which is which? Adverts on Auto Trader just seem to state 1.4, so this makes things tricky.

Thanks.

Think all 1.4 Classics are going to be 1.4 8v MPI @ 67bhp

Most others Ive seen are the VW 1.4 16V 75bhp, not too many 100bhp about, and they are normally advertised accordingly.

Hope this helps!

Lee

Yeah, it will almost certainly be the 8v engine unless the advert specifically says '16v'. It's a pretty good engine, if a little thirsty, but certainly quite a forgiving drive compared to the 16v, which has to be revved quite hard to make good progress. As far as 16v versions go, the 75bhp version is fitted to early Sports (too new for your price range, I suspect) and automatics, otherwise it will be the 100bhp version.

You could always tell by the engine code.

AZE & AZF are classed as 8v 60bhp

AME, AQW,ATZ are classed as 8v 68bhp

AUA, BBY,BKY are classed as 16v 75bhp

AUB & BBZ are classed as 16v 100bhp.

All according to Autodata anyway.

HTH. :)

red 16v is 100 bhp, 16v in black is 75 bhp, and 16v but with a red v is the 80 bhp version :)
