Removing Watermarks from Seat Fabric

Featured Replies

SWMBO's Fabia got dinged and as a result water leaked into the car during a heavy downpour which has left an unsightly watermark on the seat fabric :(

I'm after some suggestions on how to remove it safely or at least remove the visible line so an help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have treated my Furby VRS's seats a few times for stains, and can recommend a few things to try:

If its not too bad & localised, try 1001 carpet shampoo spraye stuff. Follow instructions and it works well. You can even treat the whole seat with it, but it takes quite a bit of patience and elbow grease. If you only do one spot, the rest of the seat may look grubby.

However, by far the best thing I've found are carpet shampooing machines - Vax & the like. Use warm water & a mild detergent in the machine & take your time! Move & adjust seat to get to the pokey bits, if its the rear bases, remove from car and clean outside the car.

I have successfully cleaned my interior twice now using this method and am very tempted to buy my own Vax when car needs re-doing next. B&Q & other places rent the 'Carpet Doctor', who's handheld tool is perfect for the job. I've used it once, but the first time I cleaned my car with my mates mums 1970's vax!

Hope this helps!

I use textile foam (ArmorAll - Multi Purpose Foam) to remove them easily...

As above Steve I would use an upholstery foam cleaner.

If you can bring the car over to mine with a bottle of VAX AAA cleaner then I'll do the front and rear seats with the VAX for you when I've got a free half hour.

You'll need to park the car for an hour or two or bring a black bag to sit on on the way home, but otherwise should be fine.
