AUB Engine, Oil use and Skoda Warranty

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4 16v (AUB engine) Y-Reg Estate with 66k on the clock that I've owned for just under 2 years now. In the first year it was in and out of the dealer about 14 times for various problems, most of them relating to the dreaded engine management light / emissions problems typical with this engine. Eventually I gave up and got used to driving it with the light on.

Recently I thought I'd drop in at my dealer again and have a chat with him about the problem again. He had the throttle housing replaced under my skoda approved used warranty and I managed a whole 20 miles or so before the light came on again. After digging around on these forums I've concluded that the problem must be the AUB engine piston ring issue. I had the car serviced in december and since then I've done about 400 miles and the oil level has dropped to the bottom of the flat area on the dipstick, so the oil consumption is high.

My question is does anyone have any experience of convincing a dealer of the problem with their AUB engine and getting the work done under the used warranty scheme? I can't see anything in the booklet that would exclude the work from being covered (unless they count it as normal wear and tear despite a full service history). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Richard

Ask the dealer to do a compression and leak down test to check the piston rings. With such high oil consumption, it has to be either piston rings, or valve stem oil seals.

Not sure how the warranty works after 60,000 Miles, they may try to say it's fair wear and tear.
