Remote sometimes doesn't work at all

Just wondered. Once I have noticed that the remote CL does not work at all. Plenty of life in the remote and standing right next to the car. To solve this I need to unlock with the key, then I can close it, lock, alarm, open etc with the remote. It's as if there is some form of "reset" needed.

Is this the norm or is there perhaps something a little more wrong that I need to look into. Thanks.
