Snow Foam Results

Featured Replies

Just a quick few pics actually..

As everyone seems to ask about Snow Foam, and if it's worth it or not.

This is my Fabia, hasn't been hand washed in about 3 months now, just a regular foam to remove the thick of it.

Last wash was about 1500 miles ago.

So attached is 4 pics... just to show you can still get semi-decent results just with the foam.

I was using Bilt Hamber Autofoam in an HD Lance.

(rubbish pics taken with my phone..apologies)

Not the most exciting of posts..but there you go ! :D

Good results there, I like to snow foam my cars even though it can be messy!

I find the BH autofoam dissolves very quickly once on the ground, unlike others i've used in the past, which tend to linger for a good few hours atferwards.

Wow that really seems to work well - Excuse my ignorance but what would I need in the way of equipment and woudl it fit a standard pressure washer?

Looks pretty good.

Easy mans wash.

Is that a neat Snow Foam mixture in the HD Lance?

Mark - there are various fixtures available, to attach to a standard hose or the different brands of pressure washer. A decent quality attachment is about £40. In fact, DW currently have a GB running:

Detailing World

Usually I use the foam as a pre-wash step, to get the worst grime off. But in the winter, I do much as above. Tend to power over with the pressure washer first, then foam and leave to dwell. Then use a wash mitt and a rinse bucket to go over the car. Allows a good standard of clean, with fairly minimum effort.

No Steve, I dilute it slightly.

About 2 inches of Foam, and 1 inch water seems to be enough to go round the whole car, then i usually foam the wheels again just to catch anything left on them.

I've just spotted I can get a cheap Karcher lance from Halfords for £15 - worth a try?

I currently use on of those Mark and it works pretty well. You just don't seem to get the quality and quantity of foam, like is displayed above. Trying to justify spending the extra on a posh one :D

I've got this one:

Steve,

That's the baby, cheers - I'll drop in on my way home as the 4x4 is absolutely filthy. I guess it can be used with any type of shampo but the proper detailing stuff will work better yes?

Yep, fill it up with anything you like :)

I tend to do a 50/50 of Snow Foam and shampoo at the moment. So a posher version may well save me money in the long run, in Snow Foam!

If you're going to fill it up with std car shampoo, it may well be worth watering it down a little first. If it's too thick it will clog up and not be much use...

Why dilute it with water when the pressure washer adds water when it comes out of the lance anyway?

Funnily enough, i used to mix my old Rae chem foam with Megs Gold and a little APC when the going was tough.

I take it the elite foam above is generally good stuff then? - if so I may well purchase and complete the set.

Everyone has different opinions on foam.

I've tried the elite stuff, but prefer the BH Autofoam.

But i guess thats just a personal perference.

I also use the BH Autowash and softclay aswell..lol

Alex and Alex are very good at Elite, mention my username...........

I've been using about 1inch of valet pro and topped up with warm water. Might try adding some apc or ag shampoo next. See if I can get better results.

Why dilute it with water when the pressure washer adds water when it comes out of the lance anyway?

Mainly because you munch through loads of it otherwise, but also because you don't want to make it too strong and so dilution depends on your pressure washer.

It still works at about 1 part foam and 2-3 parts water for me.

So you make up a litre at that strength then let the pressure washer dilute it further to the correct 4% at point of surface contact.

I'm also a fan of the bilt hamber autofoam as it doesn't cling as well, but cleans better than the others i've tried and that is the point of foam IMHO.

The karcher bottle is fine for prewash, eg foam it, let it sit while you're making up your wash buckets then go with a wash mitt, but if you want a decent clean without the mitt then you're after a pressure washer and HD lance IMHO.
