Tailgate trim removal

Featured Replies

Is there an easy way to do this? without damaging the trim / paintwork etc

Does it just prize off? (i.e. there are no screws - I can't see any!)

And how easy is it to replace?

It's a very tight fit and most trim removal tools will bend before they release the clips. Protect paintwork with a piece of card, then using a large flat blade screwdriver, prise away the lower corner, then pull hard by hand to release the clips. Some will break, so have a few spares ready.

Thanks

Sounds like a job for a professional (or rather "someone more hady than me!")

I used to do some work for a company that fitted alarms and sound systems to top end motors, usually just out of the showroom. It was nerve racking stuff. One single mark on a bit of trim, and it could cost hundreds of pounds for a stupid piece of plastic.

The classic one was someone, drilling five holes through the top of a petrol tank while fitting rear speakers  That was on a Subaro and the rear axle had to come out to change the tank. :D

You talkin about the rear bump strip? Mine came off without any probs with a bit of wiggling, sprayed it purple and stuck it back on again just clicked back in

I think (and hope) the OP meant the tailgate inner trim panel.

Yes - its the inner trim - a big piece of plastic with a vice like grip!

lol leave it alone and dont be so vain! :-P

They are really tight but they will lever off. As said before, be prepared to buy a few new trim clips and be prepared that it is just as tricky to re fit!

Let me guess. The rear washer pipe has popped off?

i did this last weekend, just persevere and use a flat blade screwdriver wrapped in insulation tape to prevent scratching the paint. start at the sides and work to the lock area.

Getting it back on is more tricky i found...a case of 10 hands needed.

Good luck, and watch out for the plastic going white as you are bending it, a tell tail sign that your stressing it too much.
