Best 17" tyres for Pegasus Alloys?

Featured Replies

I will be changing my tyres soon and wondered what tyres are best for a Octy 140bhp tdi?

I would like something less noisy if possible.

At the moment I have Toyo Proxes 225/45ZR17 94Y PXT1R

At the moment the spare tyre is the orginal 16" tyre so I will probably put one of the ones I have on now as the spare.

Cheers

I have found that Michelin are reasonably quiet ....but expensive.....and have gone to goodyear f1 gsd3 ....quiet, grip like mad but they wear a bit quicker

The F1's have a reputation for no grip at all in cold or snowy conditions, but I've not run them myself.

I also say Michelin are good, but not cheap and would say if you want inexpensive (not cheap) but good tyres then the Falken FK452 is a good tyre. I can only rate the specific 452 model myself as that's the only one i've run repeatedly.

I put Vredestein Ultracs on my previousOcty elegance. Great grip and they were still on the car when I traded it in and they were in great shape. Not the quietest tyres but not the noisiest either.

Another vote for Vredestein Sportrac or ultrac. Will you be able to fit a 17" tyre onto your 16" spare though?

I've got a 2.0tdi Sport ...

my summer tyres are Avon ZZ3 225/45/17 on Pegasus Alloys.

I have Avon Ice Tourers for winter 195/65/15 steelies.

Happy with both sets

regards ... Darren

Another Vredestein vote. The work Octavias use either Goodyear Excellence or Eagle F1-Asymmetrics. The Excellence are longer lasting but mushy feeling, the F1-A are a great tyre but they don't last very long.

Mine came with Michelin Primacy pilots. They have been superceed by the HP I have on the works car.

The HP is even quieter than the originals on our Octy

The type of car and size of wheels is largely irrelavant when selecting tyres I think. Good tyres are good tyres. Try doing a search this has been covered many times before. Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas are well rated, I had them on my last vRS and was impressed with them.

I swapped from dunlop sports on my sport fsi to michelin primacy hp's. Could'nt believe the difference in road noise. Would'nt ever buy dunlops again. At £109 a corner, bit more than i normaly spend but worth it if they last longer.

That price (£109) for Michelin Primacy HPs - top notch deal!

michelin pilot sport 2's for me

Thanks for the replies guys. I can get a good deal on Continentals at the moment but it doesnt say what model they are.

Are Continentals any good?

They are OK, the Conti Sport Contact 3 came top of the 'Which?' survey early last year but only 3rd in the EVO tyre test 2007 see here;- http://briskoda.net/gearbox-tyres/definitive-tyre-test/89331/ (both tested in 225/45 17).

However they are not hugely loved on this form but check specifically what you are being offered as there are still a load of Conti Sport Contact 2 around being offered cheap as they are now 'obsolete'.

Also a point to bear in mind, when were the tyres you've been offered manufactured? Rubber goes 'off' with age; you want to get as new as possible.

There is a production code on the side wall of, say, DOT 4608 that shows the week (46) and year (2008) that the tyre was made. The Ultrac Sessantas I got from Elite Direct.Com - Tyres, Alloy Wheels, Exhausts, Brakes, Suspension, MOT, Wheel Alignment, Wheel Balancing last week had this code DOT4608 i.e. they were made less than 3 months ago!

Just got 4 Continental contact 3s for £299 all in. Seems like the best deal anywhere at the moment for these tyres. :)

Where did you get that price??!!

Fast fit tyres in MK are having a double discount weekend. I turned up at 6.30 this morning because the first 3 customers get their tyres for half the already discounted price! Unfortunately there were 3 people already there so I missed out and went back later in the day.

Hmm, bit far for me! Thanks though
