Got Jabba'd today

Featured Replies

Left home at 0515 - got lost several times - and then found the Fens best kept secret - JabbaSport - in a the most unlikey location ever. No wonder they don't seek 'passing trade' - you can't find their workshops via the Hubble Telescope!

Anyway - got the job done inc. Boost Controller - dunno why 'cos it stayed on full all the way home.

First impressions were mixed - tried it up the river side corrugated road and noticed it was quicker - but the undulations nearly threw me in the drink.

Had to leave a bit pronto as I was late for a biz meeting. Finally decided that there was very noticable torque improvements in all gears particularly third and fourth.

I didn't know what to expect so didn't know whether I was chuffed or disappointed.

Seeing as my 180 bhp is now 227 - it'll sink in over the next couple of days.

Also Track Day Friday will be the final decider.

But it is definately better with 98 octane. Seems to hiccup a bit with 95 now.

Will give a better report when I'm not so tired.

Only thing that spoiled the day was the infestation of Truvelo poles all over the countryside. This obscene and immoral orgy of technology abuse just ruined a really good day. Can't overtake, can't relax, can't enjoy - just keeps you paranoid all day long.

As someone said, "when you've got a big enough hammer - everything looks like a nail" Well said that man.

Excellent stuff, will certainly keeping an eye on your findings/progress. Can you tell us a bit more about the boost-controller? Where is it located, is it something you can remove (i.e., set it on 'normal' and remove the controller when it goes in for a service)? Pictures would be good :D

Q.

what's your fax number?

I do believe I do I do........just want to compare notes.

You have a PM.

So now you've been driving it a day or two, what are your impressions?

Direct Line quoted me an extra 80 quid for a 25% power increase (180 to 225), so if I'm a good boy, she who must be obeyed may let me get chipped later this year.

Re Jabba

Stripping it down to the bare 'you don't say!' basics, my car drives the same as before but with more power and flexibility. Don't expect it to make the turbo suddenly cut in at maximum boost when you least expect it or change the feel from refined Czech to manic Jap, because it doesn't. That's a positive thing by the way. The 0-60 IS about 3 seconds quicker than before though ... (4x4)

Yes, it is much quicker - I am of course doing unrealistic acceleration tests which may give false impressions - as I don't normally clog it thru the gears.

I noticed the raw power in all gears really - in 5th at 80 it snaps up to a ton and beyond - too quickly I suppose.

But it's 2nd and 3rd where it gets hairy - which is just what I want for the track.

The boost control is neat and unobtrusive and gives a linear output so at say 50% on the little control you get 50% boost.

I'll keep you posted - after track day I'll know if it pulls out of bends much better than it did at Donners in Dec. I think I know the answer already.

Yes that's about it - drives the same but if you clog it - the punch is very noticable and that's the same in most gears.

Very smotth very controllable but it's there if you need it.

Thanks for the power test report, makes interesting reading

Is your RS a VVT engine and are the thiner line pre-chip ones.

  • Author

dunno about VVT - it's a June 2002 model and the thinner lines are pre-chip

Just to back up the idea of extra shove but no added drama, I did a few in-gear times when I first got the car remapped, and now have timed 70-90 in 4th in 5.4 seconds (This was timed 76-96 on the speedo to allow for error). This backs up your impression about the extra 80-100 grunt

see 'HELP! NEED A FIX' for Track Day report

Just waiting for a repsonse to get my car booked in to be Jabba'd. Should I start looking at other mods with the power going over 200bhp as mine is otherwise a standard turbo elegance (2001). Brakes? Suspension etc?

Hi and Welcome!

Check out the "my performance" forum.

Is your an estate or h/b?

When is your remap booked in for? At lot of Briskodians are boked through out July so maybe you could meet up.

Cheers.

Adrian.
