1.8tsi owners

I would be very interested in your views on the 1.8TSI.On paper it looks brill:thumbup:

I changed my company car to a Octy 1.8TSi in October last year and have covered just over 4500 miles since.

I am very impressed with the engine, I previously had a 55 Octy 1.9tdi, when I first got it I did have a tendancy to stall when starting off, but I seem to have mastered that. It provides a good balance between free revving performance (still improving as the miles go by) and econony ( I got just over 40MPG on the 30 mile journey to work this morning).

In addition it is a very quite engine, though this does tend to highlight the road and wind noise that is my only real issue with the Octy, though if it was my car I would solve this with some extra insulation.

Overall, very impressed

Had one for 4 months now - very, very pleased. Only done 1400 miles but mpg on a run can get over 40 (at speed!).

On motorway, a dab of throttle gets you into the nick-nick danger zone so fast you don't realise it.

No squeaks, rattles or any oddities at all, except that super-sensitive throttle at take off.

Handles nice, gear change is nice, quiet at all speeds on most roads.

Easily the best of my (so far) 3 Octavias in a row.

Thanks for the replys.....40mpg is great considering the power on tap.:D

What do you think the main differences between the 1.9Tdi and the 1.8 are?

What do you think the main differences between the 1.9Tdi and the 1.8 are?

I think the main difference is 1.9Tdi uses diesel and the 1.8 uses petrol.

Hope that helps!

It seems to me that the 1.9 TDI can achieve over 60 mpg (my long term average is over 60 mpg according to the "optimistic" read -out) and the 1.8tsi only 40 mpg ...., or am I missing something???

I guess it depends on what you want out of the car.

I wish you well.

Is that a genuine 40mpg , or just what the trip computer says?

I'm sure it cannot be that overall. The best figure I reached was 40.1mpg on the readout.

I think realistically it can only average mid thirties on "mixed" runs.

But it is nice to think that on long, reasonably unclogged motorway trips if you cruise at a steady 70, you should comfortably get to around 40 mpg, maybe more when the car has clocked up more miles.

Has the infamous door seal rattle issue been ressolved?:confused::confused:

I could not believe how free of rattles, clunks, squeaks and clanks it is. My 2.0FSi wasn't that terrible but it did get me to work on it with the usual seal lubricants, then seal changes etc. But it really wasn't that bad.

However, this one is like a Rolls Royce by comparison. I don't know if that will last, or if it is luck, or if they are all that much better now. Time and reports will tell!

p.s. over the last few days I've been sent two long surveys to fill out, mostly regarding satisfaction in various aspects of the car. I was putting between 8 and 10 (out of 10) in every answer!

i've done 3500 miles and i'm averaging about 30mpg so I don't know how the hell you're getting 40+!! I drive fairly sensibly (old age) and the best i've gotten so far was a 30 minute trip to slough a few days ago which I recorded just over 37mpg, so i'm hoping it gets better as it runs in.

I'm assuming/hoping that you can't get a car which is a lemon when concerning mpg!

Apart from that it's a great car to drive. Oh, and i've just got that survey: got halfway through and got bored and gave up!

I took the missus to Heathrow, coming up the M23, then M25, steady 70-ish then with a bit of stop-start around the M3 as usual. The trip computer reading steadily increased till it got to 40.1mpg. (No, I don't know how accurate it is!)

After the minor hold ups, it was showing high thirties for the rest of the run into Terminal 5.

On the way back, with no hold ups, it varied between 39 and 40 ish.

p.s. I'm running on Tesco 99
